Dr. Ahmad Majdalani, a member of the PLO Executive Committee, said in a February 14, 2025, address aired on Palestine TV that the Oslo Accords were not a "catastrophe." In fact, he claimed that 1.8 million Palestinian refugees returned through the agreement. He stated that, in contrast, the ceasefire deal signed by Hamas "is no victory," and that it has led to 200 Palestinians leaving every day. Majdalani said that the "Nakba of Gaza is worse than the Nakba of 1948." He emphasized Hamas's connection to the Muslim Brotherhood. Majdalani rejected claims that the PLO is "asleep" or standing idly by, pointing to his own experience as a fighter who took up arms at 16. He also stated that the PLO was formed by Palestinian factions and has never waged war as a proxy for anyone.
Ahmad Majdalani: "To people who tell me that the problem is the Oslo Accords, I say that these accords brought back 1.8 million Palestinian refugees to our homeland. Conversely, and in keeping with Hamas's capitulation agreement, 200 Palestinians are leaving every day. It's a one-way ticket with no return. You know what I am talking about. Nobody should talk to us about the Oslo Accords. The Oslo Accords established the first Palestinian political entity on Palestinian land. Historically, there had not been a Palestinian entity in Palestine before Oslo.
"The Oslo Accords constituted a transitional phase, leading the Palestinian people from occupation to freedom and independence. What happened after that is part of the conflict with the occupation. It is an asymmetrical conflict not only with the occupation, but also with the imperialist enterprise in the region, and its vision of how this region should be run. The Oslo Accords were not a catastrophe. The catastrophe was caused by people who dragged the Palestinian people into a new Nakba in Gaza. The Nakba of Gaza is worse than the Nakba of 1948.
"Haven't you seen what is going on in Gaza? Another one of those 'victories' that the brothers in the Hamas leadership talk about... I call them 'brothers' because they are part of the Muslim Brotherhood. Anyone who does not know that should know that they are. Another such victory would mean that no Palestinian would remain on his land.
"Brothers, I beg you to use the language of reason and realpolitik. We do not want such victories. People who call this a 'victory' say that people returned to the north – I was starting to think that they were going back to northern Palestine, and that this was the 'Right of Return,' not that they are returning to northern Gaza to find their homes razed to the ground. Nobody should talk to us about such 'victories.'

"Nobody should say that we are standing idly by or that we are asleep. I would like to remind you that the man standing before you is a fighter! I took up arms when I was 16. Don't say that I am asleep or just standing idly by. Don't say to me... With all due respect, the Palestinian national movement was established by the PLO factions, not by Hamas or the Muslim Brotherhood. With all due respect, we did not wage wars as a proxy of anybody."
