Palestinian Official Azzam Al-Ahmad: Arab Spring, Current Conflicts Are American-Zionist Plot to Cause Arab Nation to Disintegrate; Israel Is Arabs' Enemy, Not Iran

Azzam Al-Ahmad, who is a member of Fatah's Central Committee and of the PLO's Executive Committee, said in a July 4, 2019 interview on Mayadeen TV (Lebanon) that the wars in the Arab world today resemble pre-Islamic tribal wars and that the Arab Spring and the current wars are an "American-Zionist product." Al-Ahmad claimed that the Palestinians had warned the countries in the region regarding this plot, and he said that the conflicts are an attempt to cause the Arab nation to disintegrate. Al-Ahmad explained that this is consistent with a statement he claimed was made by David Ben-Gurion in 1954 about Israel causing the disintegration of Iraq, Syria, and Egypt. Al-Ahmad also said that the U.S. and Israel are competing to be as hostile as possible towards the Arabs and that they want to establish "Greater Israel," plunder the Arabs and their resources, and prevent the Arabs from developing. He further claimed that the U.S. causes tensions in the Persian Gulf so that the Arab nations pay them for protection, and he added: "We reject America's scheme of inventing [the idea] that Iran is the [Arabs'] enemy instead of Israel."
