Lebanese Druze leader and former Minister of the Environment, Wiam Wahhab, appeared on Al-Jadeed TV (Lebanon) on December 15, 2024, where he advocated for pursuing peace with Israel. He explained that the Druze have a “survival complex,” and in order to ensure their survival, he is willing to collaborate with anyone, even Satan, if necessary. Wahhab emphasized, “I will collaborate with Satan to protect my tribe, not just with Syria.”
Wahhab also expressed his belief that the Palestinian state has become a distant dream, suggesting that the Lebanese nation no longer wants to fight Israel. He stated that if the Shi'ites asked for his advice, he would recommend implementing UNSC Resolution 1701 and seeking peace with Israel. He added: “The nation does not want to fight for the sake of Palestine. […] Will you force it to fight against its will?” Wahhab further argued that Lebanon should abandon the logic of war with Israel.
In response to the interviewer’s comment that his position contradicted Lebanon’s political history and ideology over the past 70 years, Wahhab replied: “We must stop following pipe dreams. The nation does not want to fight.”
Wiham Wahhab: "Ultimately, we [Druze] have a survival complex. This survival complex has existed for 1,000 years, and it comes with a price. Therefore, I am willing to kill for the sake of that tribe. I am willing to collaborate with Satan for it, not just with Syria."
Interviewer: "You mean with Israel?"
Wahhab: "I will collaborate with Satan to protect my tribe.

"The Palestinian state has become a distant dream. Forget it. [Netanyahu] wants to give [the Palestinians] municipal authorities. We need to talk about the Arab-Israeli conflict. I would like to be honest with you and with everybody. We need to talk about it, because our nation does not want to fight Israel. If we want Lebanon to fight Israel for another 70 years, we need to talk about it first."
Interviewer: "What's the alternative? To go back to the 1949 Armistice Agreements?"
Wahhab: "If the Shiites asked me for my opinion, I would tell them that the Resolution 1701 gives them guarantees, because it makes the region protected by the international community. They already have control of the natural resources in the region. If they asked for my opinion, I would tell them to go for peace. The nation does not want to fight."
Interviewer: "What do you mean? Are you calling for normalization of relations with Israel?"
Wahhab: "Hasn't the [Shiite] axis paid the price for the confrontation for the sake of Palestine? The nation does not want to fight for the sake of Palestine. What do you want me to do? I follow the majority. My people follow Gamal Abdel Nasser. Then we followed the Palestinian resistance, and then we followed the Lebanese resistance, in order to liberate our land. The nation does not want to fight. Will you force it to fight against its will? Or will you continue pretending to have the moral high ground, and say that there is a problem [with Israel]? Brother, the entire nation tells you that there is no problem. The Muslim Brotherhood, which is an Iranian ally – the big Sunni organization that has allied itself with Iran – does not want to fight, so why should we continue this war? I believe that we should abandon, once and for all, the logic of war with Israel. Let's just wait and see what the nation is doing. The minute we see them marching to Jerusalem, we will follow them. But if we continue to fight on their behalf, and against their will, while they... How long has Erdoğan been speaking against Netanyahu and Israel, but the moment the war here was over, he sent his forces into Syria..."
Interviewer: "But what you are saying contradicts all our political history and ideology in the past 70 years."
Wahhab: "You need to be realistic..."
Interviewer: "Do you want us to forget the central cause that has been living in the conscience of our entire nation?"
Wahhab: "We must stop following pipe dreams. The nation does not want to fight. What do you want me to do? A billion and a half [Muslims] want to watch you from the sidelines. Not just watch. They want to f*ck you over. Do you still want to fight?"
