Lebanese journalist Nadim Koteich said in an October 7, 2024, show on Sky News Arabia (UAE) that anyone who calls what has transpired in Lebanon and Gaza a "victory" suffers from a moral problem. He said that there is no dignity or glory in two million Palestinians being displaced, or when half of Lebanon's Sh'iites are driven out of their homes in south Lebanon and the Beqaa Valley and forced to sleep in the streets without basic facilities. Koteich said that calling this a victory is a "moral collapse."
Nadim Koteich: "The problem today is not just with the economic data and the losses. Today, we are suffering from a moral problem more than anything. Our moral values, culture, and conscience are flawed. If, after everything that has happened, they are still calling this a victory, the problem is more moral than political.
"We need to calmly redefine the meaning of dignity. Dignity does not mean that two million Palestinians are displaced from their homes, in the most humiliating and undignified manner. There is no dignity or glory, when over half of the Shi'ite population of Lebanon are driven out of their homes in south Lebanon and the Beqaa, and they have no choice but to sleep in the streets.
"I see people who were school teachers and university lecturers, and officials in the public sector. These were normative people who were sitting in their homes, and are now just lying on the sidewalks. There are no shelters, no mattresses, no blankets, no water, no toilets…
"You talk to your people about honor, glory, and military ingenuity, and end up with this result, and you still call it a victory? This constitutes a significant moral problem. It is a moral collapse."
