In a recent TV interview, Mirwais, a commander in the Afghani Hizb-e Islami, said: "We are waiting to see that [ISIS] have all that an Islamic caliphate requires. If they do, we are ready to join them." "We are praying for their victory," he added. The interview aired on BBC Arabic and was posted on the Internet on September 2, 2014.
Mirwais: Mirwais belonds to a group that calls itself Hizb-e-Islami, and supports the Taliban in this area. Even though many of the Western forces have left, Mirwais has no intention of giving up his weapons.
Mirwais: We will continue fighting until the rule is in accordance with the teachings of the Quran. We will not accept the American-made constitution. We will continue to fight until we instate the Islamic shari'a.
Mirwais: Mirwais says that he gets much of his ammunition from (members of) the police and army forces, who hand over their weapons to him in order to win his friendship. Mirwais and his men are considering cooperation with ISIS.
Mirwais: I am aware of the Islamic State, and I have contacts with some of its members. The Muslims are thirsty for an Islamic caliphate in the world. The Islamic State is now spreading in parts of Iraq and Syria. We are waiting to see that they have all that an Islamic caliphate requires. If they do, we are ready to join them. We are praying for their victory.
