Kuwaiti Islamic scholar Othman Al-Khamees said in a February 28, 2025 episode of Insan_Podcast that it is the duty of the Muslims to pray on behalf of the people Gaza. He said: "May Allah annihilate those damned Jews," and he added that it is not difficult for Allah to annihilate them. Al-Khamees said that although Hamas is a "deviant" political group, it should not be conflated with the people of Palestine and Gaza. He stated that Hamas has flung itself on the lap of Iran, but the people of Gaza have done nothing wrong, and Hamas are still Muslims, "despite their deviations." Al-Khamees emphasized that now is not the time to oppose or criticize Hamas and that after the war certain groups can be destroyed. He said that he can hate Hamas but still support the group against the Jews.
Host: "What is our duty [towards the people of Gaza] today?"
Othman Al-Khamees: "First of all, we must acknowledge that we have been remiss.

"We must increase our prayers for them, that Allah will protect them, that Allah make it easier for them, that Allah seize their enemy with the most crushing grip of the Almighty, the Most Powerful. Allah can do this easily.

"I believe that the problem with Gaza is that people confuse Hamas and Palestine. You see what I mean? They see Hamas's mistakes and deviations and they attribute them to Palestine or to the people of Gaza. This is wrong. Hamas is a political group that, in my view, is deviant, and which has followed a bad, partisan path, and so on and so forth. It has flung itself into the lap of Iran. The other issue is that the people of Gaza have done nothing wrong. Even Hamas themselves – with all their deviations – are still Muslims.

"No matter how deviant a Muslim is, we must stand by him. We need to support him, but not ideologically. We can oppose and criticize him, but even this criticism – it's not the right time for it. Once the war is over, maybe I will strive to destroy this group or party, because it spreads corruption. It is very bad because it spreads corruption. It is very bad, but right now... There is time for everything. This is not the right time for this.

"We must not confuse Gaza with Hamas. The fact that I hate Hamas, and that I am upset about its actions, or believe it to be deviant, is one thing, and it will continue until they change their ways... Gaza is another thing. It is being attacked by the Jews, and I sympathize with the people of Gaza, and I feel that they should be supported and defended. I think the problem is that people confuse Hamas and Gaza, and they consider anyone defending Gaza to be a Hamas supporter. This is not true. Likewise, anyone talking against Hamas is considered to be against the people of Gaza. This is not true either. We support Gaza and Palestine, but are against Hamas. Still, we support Hamas against the Jews. It is unacceptable to support the Jews against Hamas, or just stand idly by and let them lock horns. No, this is unacceptable. With all they have done, Hamas are still Muslims. Muslims! They are deviant and wrongful Muslims, but that's a different thing. They are Muslims all the same."
