Iraqi Shiite Militia Leader Abu Alaa Al-Walai: If U.S.-Iran War Breaks out, We Will Fight alongside Iran, All Americans in Iraq Will Be Held Hostages by the Resistance; We Could Easily Send Drone to Strike (U.S.) Embassy

Abu Alaa Al-Walai, the Secretary-General of the Iraqi Shiite militia Kata'ib Sayyid Al-Shuhada, said in an August 28, 2019 interview on Dijlah TV (Iraq) that the "easiest" thing to do in retaliation against Israel for drone strikes it has reportedly carried out in Iraq is to send similarly-equipped drones to bomb Israel's embassy and its military bases. He also said that Kata'ib Sayyid Al-Shuhada would fight alongside Iran if a U.S.-Iran war broke out. He said: "If fighting broke out between Satan and America, I would stand with Satan, because America is the Greater Satan." In addition, Al-Walai said that all of the Americans in Iraq would become hostages of the Islamic resistance if a U.S.-Iran war breaks out.

Abu Alaa Al-Walai: The easiest thing for me to do, if I were considering a disproportionate retaliation [for attacks on the PMU]… Just like drones bombed our bases, as well as our men near the Syrian border and our camp in Amerli, the easiest thing for us to do would be to send drones, armed with the same weapons or even better ones, and bomb their embassy and all their military bases.

Interviewer: That would be the easiest thing?

Abu Alaa Al-Walai: Yes.

Interviewer: Which embassy would you bomb? I am saying this as a fighter. But if I speak as a part of the Popular Mobilization Units [PMU], I would say something else. [in such a case] I would say that we oppose separate solutions, but that we support the government’s solution.

Would you fight alongside the Islamic Republic if it is attacked?

Abu Alaa Al-Walai: Let me ask you a question.

Interviewer: I am the one asking the questions.

Abu Alaa Al-Walai: If fighting broke out between America and Jordan, who would you support? If fighting broke out between America and Saudi Arabia, who would you support? Personally, if fighting broke out between America and Jordan, I would stand with Jordan. If fighting broke out between America and Syria, I would stand with Syria. If fighting broke out between Saudi Arabia and America, I would stand with Saudi Arabia. If fighting broke out between Iran and America, I would stand with Iran. There is no need for more examples, but let’s assume, for the sake of argument – and may Allah protect us from such a possibility… If fighting broke out between Satan and America, I would stand with Satan, because America is the Greater Satan.

I’ll be honest with you. I don’t want to see Iraq turn into a battleground. Nobody wins in a war. Everybody loses. I believe that all that has been achieved since 2003 might be lost in a single moment if a war breaks out.

The Americans are present in Iraq now. I am now talking as a fighter for the resistance, not as a PMU member. [According to my] ideological position, all the Americans [in Iraq] are hostages in the hands of the resistance.

Interviewer: Pardon me?

Abu Alaa Al-Walai: You heard me, but I will say it again. All the Americans will become hostages in the hands of the resistance if a [U.S.-Iran] war breaks out, because we will stand with the Islamic Republic [of Iran]. End of story. Was that clear enough?
