Iraqi MP Breaks Down in Tears Pleading Parliament to Save Yazidis from Genocide

#4406 | 03:05
Source: Al-Iraqiya TV (Iraq)

During an Iraqi parliamentary session, Yazidi MP Vian Dakhil made an impassioned plea to save her people from a genocide being carried out by ISIS. "We are being slaughtered, annihilated," she cried, describing the fate of 30,000 Yazidi families besieged on Mount Sinjar without food or water. "Save us!" she pleaded, finally breaking down in tears. The address aired on Al-Iraqiya TV on August 5, 2014.

MP Vian Dakhil: In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate. Honorable Presidential Council, colleagues, representatives of the Iraqi people...

Parliamentary speaker: MPs, you can show solidarity with her by standing in your places.

MP Vian Dakhil: I am standing here not in order to deliver a speech to the Iraqi people, but in order to convey the bitter reality of the Yazidis currently in Mount Sinjar. Mr. Speaker, under the slogan of "There is no god but Allah," 500 Yazidi boys and men have been slaughtered up to now...

Parliamentary speaker: Madam MP, please stick to the communiqué that was agreed upon...

MP Vian Dakhil: Mr. Speaker, our women are being taken captive and sold on the slave-market... Please, brothers... Please, brothers... A genocide campaign is taking place right now against the Yazidis...

Parliamentary speaker: Madam MP...

MP Vian Dakhil: Yes, Mr. Speaker, I am sticking to the communiqué... I beg you, Mr. Speaker, my people are being slaughtered, just like all the Iraqis were slaughtered: Shiites, Sunnis, Christians, Turkmens, and the Shabak people. Today, the Yazidis are being slaughtered.

Brothers, despite all the political disagreements, we want human solidarity. I speak in the name of humanity. Save us! Save us! For the past 48 hours, 30,000 families have been besieged on Mount Sinjar, without food or water. They are dying. Seventy children have died so far of thirst and suffocation. Fifty elderly people have died because of the deteriorating conditions. Our women are being taken captive and sold on the slave-market.

Mr. Speaker, we call upon the Iraqi parliament to intervene immediately to stop this massacre. The Yazidis suffered 72 genocides, and it is being repeated in the 21st century.

We are being slaughtered, annihilated. An entire religion is being wiped off the face of the Earth. Brothers, I am calling out to you in the name of humanity! In the name of humanity, save us! Mr. Speaker, I want to...

Vian Dakhil breaks down crying

Parliamentary speaker: Thank you very much. Mr. Abbas is the next speaker. Thank you.
