A day before the anniversary of the 1979 U.S. embassy takeover in Tehran, Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei addressed the public and talked about the "trampling" of human values in the U.S., explaining the meaning of the Iranian chant "Death to America." Khamenei further said that Iran was a "glowing figure" in the Middle East, listing the countries in which it "holds its head up high." The speech was posted on Khamenei's official website and social media outlets.

Following are excerpts

Ali Khamenei: Human values have been trampled [in the US]: discrimination, controversies, racism, and human rights violations. When you chant: "Death to America"... When you are told to direct all your chants against America, it means: Death for all these things [that America represents].

Crowd: Death to America! Death to America! Death to America! Death to America! Death to America! Death to America! Death to America! Death to America!

[...]

Ali Khamenei: Today, the Iranian nation holds its head up high in the Middle East. In Iraq, in Syria, in Lebanon, in Yemen, in the Persian Gulf region, and everywhere that you look, Iran is a glowing figure.

Crowd: Allah Akbar! Allah Akbar! Allah Akbar!

Khamenei is the Leader!

Death to those who oppose the Rule of the Jurisprudent!

Death to America! Death to England!

Death to the hypocrites and the infidels!

Death to Israel!
