Iranian President Ahmadinejad on the World Economic Crisis: America Is on a Slippery Slope and Nobody Can Save It

Following are excerpts from a public address delivered by Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, which aired on IRINN – the Iranian News Channel on October 8, 2008:

Mahmoud Ahmadinejad: Look at the state of the economy in Europe and America. These governments boasted that they have turned their countries into a paradise, and they did not allow other peoples to see their vulnerabilities and weaknesses. Take a look at them. Today, in America, out of a population of 290 million, 80 million are poor, and more than 40 million people live in abject poverty – they have no place to live and no food to eat, and they receive no support. As you can see, in this economic crisis, one wave follows another, pressure follows pressure, and defeat follows defeat. Their banks, a symbol of plundering, of exploitation of the peoples, and of global capitalism, are in a state of defeat, and are collapsing one after another. During our visit to New York, we observed the atmosphere there. We held discussions with various groups there, and we followed the media broadcasts. Let me describe the atmosphere there, give you a short analysis, and talk about the divine promise. We saw the confusion of the rulers, who have lost their self-confidence, and are incapable of resolving these issues. The waves of problems and of economic destruction are so strong that nobody in the world of arrogance has any hope of holding back the waves and resolving the problems. They all talk about despair, dark days, growing problems, and an uncertain future. Today, their economic situation is a hundred times worse than they let on, and more than they let other peoples know.

[...]

Why did this happen? The reason is clear to us all: It has been around 200 years since they declared that society should be free of moral values, of religion, of the teachings of the prophets, and of divine values. They claimed that lying, deceit, slander, egoism, self-indulgence, hedonism, and the pursuit of power are all good things, and that whoever gains the rule must be obeyed. He makes the laws, and whatever he says or demands is just. He is the ruler, and all others are subjects to his rule. They have abandoned the worship of God, as well as their faith in God, in the prophets, and in justice. They have imposed superiority, deceit, and lies on politics. In economics, they have painted theft, usury, and the plundering of the resources of nations in attractive colors. Using pseudo-scientific formulas, they legitimized and spread usury and corruption. For over 200 years, they have plundered the resources of other peoples, they have made their own lands flourish and prosper, and they have filled the bottomless pockets of their tycoons. For over 200 years, they have kept the peoples shackled.

[...]

The reason for their defeat can be summed up in two sentences: They have abandoned their belief in God, and they have abandoned doing good deeds.

[...]

They are on a slippery slope, and nobody can save them.
