Iranian Political Analyst Emad Abshenas: Some In Iran Believe We Should Start A War With The U.S. And Demand The Lifting Of The Sanctions In Exchange For A Ceasefire

Iranian political analyst Emad Abshenas said in a December 30, 2020 interview on Alghad TV (UAE/Egypt) that Iran's military is fully prepared for a confrontation with the United States, despite Iran’s economic difficulties. He said that some people think it is necessary for Iran to go to war with the United States in order to create a situation in which America would be willing to lift the economic sanctions against Iran.

Emad Abshenas: "The Iranians are fully prepared. There are voices in Iran saying that Iran now has a golden opportunity to enter into a confrontation with the US, and that Iran should not wait until its circumstances are similar to those of Iraq or Libya – until Iran is weak and then the Americans attack it. Today, Iran has the military capability to attack the Americans.

[...]

"The Iranian military forces are fully prepared. [Iran] can hurt the other side, and the cost of attacking Iran will be very high. Some people here believe that Trump's policies have brought us to the point of no return: Either there is a war, or everything is over.

"Some people are waiting for Biden to end these disagreements, whereas others believe that this will not be over even with the arrival of Biden, and that [Iran] should start a war with the U.S. and harm the Americans in order to enter into negotiations and stop the war in exchange for lifting the sanctions and ending the [anti-Iranian] American actions – just like what happened between Israel and Hizbullah in Lebanon. These people say that Hizbullah did the same thing."
