Iranian Official: Attacking Syria Will Lead to New Vietnam War against U.S., Israel, and Allies

Following are excerpts from a statement made by Ismail Kawthari, head of the Defense Committee of the Iranian Majlis, which aired on Russia Today TV on September 2, 2013.

Ismail Kawthari: If the Americans carry out limited military operations, like they say, Washington and its allies, who follow in its footsteps, must realize that they will face a strong and swift response from Syria, Hizbullah, the friends of the Islamic Revolution, and the resistance front, as well as from all the resistance fighters, who believe that people have the right to live in freedom and dignity, without Western interference in their countries' affairs.

The United States and its spoiled protégé, Israel, must understand that Syria is not alone and that its allies stand by it. America and all its allies in the region and the world should understand that the response will come from Syria, as well as from the resistance front.

America will be harmed first, followed by the accursed Zionist Entity, and all the European countries that spur them on in this aggression. Some Arab countries will lose their credibility due to their silence in the face of this aggression. This is true especially for the countries supporting the aggression.

The patience of the resistance countries has run out, and we will settle the score with those responsible for this aggression. IRGC Commander General Jafari said that this region would turn into a new Vietnam for America. I would like to reiterate what he said. He was very frank and clear.

The Vietnam War was fought between the U.S. and the tiny country of Vietnam. In our region, however, the situation will be entirely different. The war will be like a big, multi-faceted Vietnam War, fought against the U.S., Israel, and their allies. I am certain that American leaders are wise enough not to engage in something like that, because they know that it will cost them dearly.
