Following are excerpts from a speech by Iranian leader Ali Khamenei, which aired on Channel 1, Iranian TV, on April 26, 2006.
Ali Khamenei: Look how the arrogant people of the world become enraged. The things uttered by people like Bush and his circle show that they are becoming enraged. This is because you are now making progress with full force.

Our enemies and the evil global arrogance [the West] have realized that they cannot embark upon a military campaign against the Iranian people and the Islamic Republic of Iran, because this would cause them great losses.

The Americans should know: If they take any aggressive action against Islamic Iran, Iran will harm their interests wherever possible in the world.

Ali Khamenei: We are not the kind of people to sit and wait for somebody to strike at us, without striking back. We are people of peace and tranquility. We don't attack anybody. The reason is obvious. What country did we ever attack? Against what country did we ever start a war? What country did we ever threaten? We are not the kind of people who do such things. But we are the kind of people that, when attacked by anybody - we strike back twice as hard.
