Iranian Cleric Kazem Sedighi: If We Wanted Nuclear Weapon, America Would Not Be Able to Prevent Us

Source: Channel 1 (Iran)

Following are excerpts from a Tehran Friday sermon delivered by Iranian cleric Kazem Sedighi, which aired on Iranian channel 1 TV on March 1, 2013.

Kazem Sedighi: The claim made by some news agencies that Iran has agreed to stop enriching uranium to 20% is nonsensical and baseless. The Iranian nation has the unequivocal right to possess scientific and industrial nuclear [plants], and the percentage of enrichment is nobody’s business.

Iran will implement this right in order to meet its needs. It has never feared any power and will not in the future.

Our plans do not include nuclear weapons not because we require the permission of the U.S. President, but because a fatwa by our leader forbids having nuclear weapons.

Producing a nuclear weapon is a crime against humanity. Our hands are tied by our religion and our humane moral values. If that were not the case, no power or arch-criminal – not even America – would be able to prevent Iran from developing a nuclear weapon.
