Senior Iranian Ayatollah Mohammad Mehdi Mirbagheri: In Order for the Hidden Imam to Reappear We Must Engage in "Widespread Fighting" with the West

Iranian Assembly of Experts member Ayatollah Mohammad Mehdi Mirbagheri said in a July 31, 2019 interview on Ofogh TV that fighting in the cause of Allah is moral and that widespread fighting is a prerequisite for the emergence of the Hidden Imam. He said that negotiations that aim to bring about the triumph of Islamic civilization are good, and he explained that these negotiations ultimately turn into ultimatums. On the other hand, he said that negotiations for the purposes of cooperating with the society of the infidels are bad. Ayatollah Mirbagheri added that the Islamic revolution must continue because the conflict with the West is not over. He said: "We did not carry out a revolution in order to join the international community and accept liberal democracy... It has all been done in order to bring about the age of [the Hidden Imam's] reappearance."

Mohammad Mehdi Mirbagheri: "If we stand by our ideology of truth, it is moral for us to fight. 'Fighting in the cause of Allah' constitutes an entirely moral war. We will never reach the age of the reappearance [of the Hidden Imam] unless we go into widespread fighting – a comprehensive clash that will escalate into fighting. [The Quran says:] 'Fight them so there is no discord, and religion in its entirety is to Allah.' This addresses all the imams throughout history, and first and foremost the Hidden Imam.

"How come [the West] has the right to fight for democracy and to spread it – a thing that has become a farce..."

Reporter: "Under Trump's leadership..."

Mohammad Mehdi Mirbagheri: "Exactly. [They have the right] to fight, to come to the Middle East, to attack, to perpetrate massacres, to run the prison in Guantanamo... All this is considered moral, yet it is considered immoral if we confront them so that the [Hidden Imam] reappears?

[...]

"In essence, negotiations are neither good nor bad. It all depends on your approach to the negotiations. If your aim is to bring about the triumph of [Islamic] civilization, then the negotiations have specific characteristics and are obviously good. In such a case, the negotiations will turn into an ultimatum. But if the purpose is to cooperate with the society of the infidels, then the negotiations are certainly bad.

[...]

"I apologize to the Hidden Imam before saying this... In the West, they said: 'God is dead.' Nietzsche said this, right? Is there anything that can be more impolite than for a rotten carcass like Nietzsche to say that God is dead? God is the Ever-Living and the Sustainer. He is the source of all life. That civilization, which imposes its hegemony across the world... No matter how many times you say that it is not anti-religious, everybody knows that it is.

[...]

"Why should we maintain our revolution? Why should our regime be revolutionary? Because our rivalry [with the West] is not yet completed. We did not carry out a revolution in order to join the international community and accept liberal democracy. Why would we have had to sacrifice so many martyrs if we only wanted to join liberal democracy? Why would we have had to suffer such depravation? It has all been done to bring about the age of [the Hidden Imam's] reappearance. So the same revolutionary spirit that prevailed among the believers at the advent of Islam, during the Ashura, and following the occultation of the Hidden Imam should prevail now."
