On January 30, 2019, Channel 2 TV (Iran) aired a report about the delivery of 30 tons of yellowcake from the Shahid Rezaeinzhad industrial complex in Ardakan, Iran to the Isfahan UCF nuclear plant, where the uranium will be enriched. Ali Akbar Salehi, the head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran, said that the Ardakan plant uses the latest technology and that it is Iran’s first plant that can produce yellowcake at a large scale. He explained that uranium is mined in Yazd Province at the Saghand mines and that there are additional mines which have not been announced yet. He said that the plant in Ardakan can receive 84,000 tons of uranium ore and turn it into yellowcake, and that similar plants will be built elsewhere in the Yazd Province. He also said that Iran is ready to produce 300 tons of yellowcake per year for the next five or six years.
Following are excerpts:
Reporter 1: [There is] new blood in the veins of our new industry. The Iranian scientists have sent 30 tons of uranium to the Isfahan [nuclear] facilities. The enrichment of 30 tons of yellowcake will be completed in the Isfahan UCF.
Ali Akbar Salehi: We are at the Shahid Rezaeinzhad industrial complex in Ardakan. This is the plant for the production of yellowcake. Today, we will witness the transfer of 30 tons of yellowcake produced here to Isfahan. The production in this plant is at full capacity. This is our first plant that produces yellowcake at such a scale. We had another yellowcake plant in Gachin, but its production was at a much smaller scale. Today, we mine uranium in Yazd Province, in the Saghand 1 and Saghand 2 mines. We have other mines, which we will announce about later. We have managed to discover significant amounts of uranium from the air. We are ready to produce over 300 tons of yellowcake per year for the next 5 or 6 years.
Reporter 1: In the spring of 2018, an initial shipment of 10 tons of uranium was delivered to the UCF in Isfahan.
Reporter 2: The Iranian nuclear specialists have had another honorable achievement. The second shipment of yellowcake produced in the Shahid Rezaeinezhad industrial complex was transferred today to the Isfahan UCF plant in the presence of Vice President Salehi, the head of the Atomic Organization.
Ali Akbar Salehi: Today, we are witnessing the completion of an important link: uranium production. Similar plants will be built in other places in Yazd Province. Yellowcake, or uranium, is a strategic raw material for the nuclear industry. This is our first plant of a large scale, and we are using the latest technologies.
Today, we witnessed the industrial operation of this huge plant, which can receive 84,000 tons of uranium ore and turn it into yellowcake.
