Iran Showcases New "Hoveizeh" Cruise Missile

On February 2, 2019, IRINN TV, the Iranian news channel, aired a report on Iran's new "Hoveizeh" cruise missile. IRGC General Mohamed Azizi Delshad, top advisor to Iran’s minister of defense, said: “It has a powerful warhead, due to the special explosives installed in it. Precision is very important in cruise missiles.” He added: “These are two prominent characteristics of the Hoveizeh missile.” Iran’s Minister of Defense Amir Hatami said that “it takes a very short time to prepare the missile [for launch]. It flies very low, and it has a powerful warhead. Allah willing, it will strengthen our country’s chain of defense.” General Amir-Ali Hajizadeh, commander of the IRGC Aerospace Force said: “When it is used against the enemy, it is very difficult to intercept it because it flies so close to the ground.”

Iranian Channel 1 TV also aired a report about the Hoveizeh missile on February 2, the news anchor said that “the Hoveizeh missile has a range of over 1,300 kilometers, and it can destroy targets of various kinds, due to its tactical capabilities.” The channel aired footage of the missile being launched and the anchor concluded: “The Minister of Defense said that the building of the Howizeh cruise missile, by the scientists and defense experts has brought the chain of Iranian missile defense to completion.”

Host: Defensive power in the shade of Iranian knowhow: The Hozeiveh missile – a "relative" of the Soumar missile – was presented.

It has to do with the missiles navigation capability and its ability to acquire the target. These are two prominent characteristics of the Hoveizeh missile.
