Iranian Majles Member Mahmoud Nabavian: The Agreement Between Iranian Atomic Energy Organization Head Salehi And IAEA Chief Grossi Is Illegal, Unconstitutional, Null And Void

Iranian Majles member Mahmoud Nabavian said that the agreement signed between Iran's head of Atomic Energy Organization Ali Akbar Salehi and IAEA chief Grossi is illegal because it contradicts a law passed by the Majles. He spoke in an interview with Ofogh TV (Iran) that aired on February 22, 2021. Nabavian said that this agreement was not only illegal but it was also unconstitutional and thus null and void. He added that the Rouhani government "holds the record in trampling our laws underfoot." In 2014, Nabavian said that Iran needs a nuclear bomb "to put Israel in its place" (see MEMRI Special Dispatch No. 5587).

Mahmoud Nabavian: "This morning, when we convened the Majles, we saw that last night, the government ratified an agreement that had been signed between Mr. Salehi and the IAEA Chief, Mr. Grossi. Not only does this agreement contradict the law legislated by the Majles, but it also contradicts the constitution.

[...]

"Unfortunately, as far as I can tell, the government never abides by the constitution or by the laws legislated by the Majles – see the JCPOA, Geneva, Lausanne... All these cases had to be brought to the Majles for ratification. However, none of them was brought before the Majles, I'm sad to say. The agreement that they just signed also contradicts the constitution, as well as the law legislated by the Majles.

[...]

"All forms of [IAEA] inspections must be stopped [according to the Majles law]. Unfortunately, in contradiction to the law legislated by the Majles, the inspections..."

Interviewer: "...were extended..."

Nabavian: "An agreement was signed between Mr. Salehi and the IAEA chief. When? Yesterday.

[...]

"Since this agreement is illegal, we hereby announce for the whole world to hear: Even though the government has signed it, it is null and void. Our enemies need to understand this. Mr. Grossi needs to understand this. If my voice reaches him – this is null and void.

[...]

"My suggestion is as follows: Mr. Salehi should send a letter to Mr. Grossi, and tell him that this agreement is null and void. This is if they want to uphold the law, but they don't. I want to protest here. Mr. Rouhani's government holds the record in trampling our laws underfoot."
