Holiday Sermon at Iraqi Shiite Mosque: We Want to See Saddam Hussein Hanging from the Gallows

#912 | 02:35
Source: Al-Iraqiya TV (Iraq)

Following are excerpts from a holiday sermon at an Iraqi Shiite mosque, which aired on Al-Iraqiya TV on November 4, 2005.

We have accepted all these sacrifices in order to make progress in our battle against terror, and we will not agree to any concession in this. We have been patient in the face of car bombs, in the face of the bombing of our mosques, our Shiite schools, and our holy tombs. We have been very patient in the face of the killing of women and children, so that the light of the constitution would spread throughout Iraq. This is why we will not accept a parliament that might forsake this constitution or might conspire against it.

[...]

(The Iraqi people) has embraced the mortar shells directed at it, so that it would bear witness to the birth of an Iraq of lawfulness, an Iraq of construction, an Iraq of prosperity, and so that its eyes may feast upon the sight of the criminal Saddam hanging from the gallows of Baghdad, which will demonstrate to the entire world and to history the fate that befalls oppressors.

On this point, I have to mention President Talabani's humanitarian call to medically treat the criminal Barazan Al-Tikriti.

[...]

I call upon the government to initiate... Instead of thinking about providing treatment to this criminal alone, they should initiate treatment for all the terminally ill, and all those who were maimed by the terrorists, or else they should generously compensate them.

But to provide treatment only for one of the greatest criminals runs counter not only to humanitarianism, but also to the most basic norms.

[...]

The best treatment would be to try them quickly and to send them to the gallows, where they can rest and relax.
