Hizbullah Secretary-General Naim Qassem: We Won The War; We Lost Our Military Supply Route Due To The Fall Of Assad, But We Hope The New Regime Does Not Normalize Relations With Israel

Hizbullah Secretary-General Naim Qassem stated in his December 14, 2024, address that the resistance has "won the war" because the enemy failed to achieve its primary objective of destroying Hizbullah and entering the "New Middle East" through Lebanon. He explained that Hizbullah supported Syria due to its hostility toward Israel and because Syria's soil was used to "bolster" the resistance in Palestine and Lebanon. Qassem expressed hope that Syria's new leadership would continue to view Israel as an enemy and refrain from normalizing relations with it. He acknowledged that Hizbullah has lost its military supply route through Syria but suggested that it could be restored under the new regime or alternative routes might be explored, emphasizing the flexibility of the resistance and its ongoing commitment.

Naim Qassem: "The resistance has won, because the enemy failed to accomplish its main goal of destroying Hizbullah, could not bring the settlers back [to their homes] without an agreement, and has failed to enter the 'New Middle East,' through the gates of Lebanon.

[...]

"We supported Syria, because it was hostile to Israel and helped to bolster the capabilities of the resistance in Lebanon and Palestine, via its soil. Now however, the regime has been overthrown by new forces.

[...]

"We hope that all the parties and all the sects in Syria will participate in the formation of the new rule and will be part of it, so that the rule in Syria will be based on the citizenship and not on sectarianism. In addition, we hope that the new rulers will consider Israel to be an enemy, and will refrain from normalizing its relations with it. These are the issues that will influence the nature of our relations with Syria. The Syrian people have the right to choose their leaders, constitution, and future. We hope that they agree on options that are not controlled by other countries, which have ulterior designs in Syria and wish to serve the Israeli enemy. True, Hizbullah has lost, at this stage, the military supply route via Syria, but this loss is just a detail in the operation of the resistance. It is possible that with the new regime, this route will be restored in a natural way. It is also possible that we will look for other routes. The resistance is flexible. It does not limit itself. The important thing is that the resistance continues, whereas the means and methods can change and be modified."
