Following is an excerpt from an interview with Fatah Revolutionary Council Member Jibril Rajoub, which aired on Channel 1, Egyptian TV on April 22, 2007:
Fatah Revolutionary Council Member Jibril Rajoub: The resistance is not a symphony played over and over again, merely in order to fan the people's emotions. Resistance is part of our national ideology. Resistance is part of our belief that if the Palestinian people abandons this option, it will cease to exist. But resistance does not just mean sending some martyrdom-seeker to Tel Aviv. Resistance means the strengthening of the Palestinian people's steadfastness. Resistance means the strengthening of the national resilience of the Palestinians. Resistance means protection of the democratic process. Resistance means national unity as a modus operandi. Resistance also means turning Gaza into a Singapore, rather than a Somalia. Resistance means attracting foreign investments. Resistance means the building of schools and universities. If resistance meant nothing more than bearing arms and making a big fuss – this would not be resistance, but suicide.
