Following are excerpts from a report on a campaign by Egyptians against American aid. The campaign was launched from the tomb of late Egyptian president Gamal Abd Al-Nasser. The report was posted on the Internet on July 23, 2013.

Muhammad Farouq: My name is Muhammad Farouq, and I'm a member of the central committee of the campaign against American aid. We oppose American aid to Egypt, because this aid represents the subordination forced upon us by the U.S. It is the main obstacle to realizing the goals of the revolution, which are freedom, honor, and social justice.

Interviewer: How does it work?

Muhammad Farouq: We plan to collect the signatures of millions of Egyptians, and to submit this petition to the Egyptian president, as an indication of the Egyptian people's rejection of subordination to the U.S., thus forcing him to adhere to this demand. This way, we will restore Egypt's independence.

We've already collected 100,000 signatures. Our initial goal is to collect one million signatures, and then we will hold a press conference.

Interviewer: Are you collecting signatures only in Cairo, or all over Egypt?

Muhammad Farouq: All over the country. We even have an office to collect signatures from Egyptians abroad.

Samia Zein Al-Abideen: My name is Samia Zein Al-Abideen, deputy editor of Al-Masa newspaper and the head of its military section. I am one of the founders of the Movement for the Defense of the Republic.

I say to the U.S.: The Egyptian people refused U.S. aid in the past. In the 1960s, President Abd Al-Nasser said that we would rather share a loaf of bread and a cup of tea than accept your despicable aid.

You are the enemy of the peoples. You are bloodsuckers. Egypt will remain free, with its noble people and great army. You will not succeed in harming us.

Very soon, we shall witness the collapse of the U.S., because we believe that the higher you climb, the harder you fall.
