Egyptian MP Mustafa Bakri: Turkey Seeks To Fragment The Arab World; Erdoğan Has A Colonialist Mentality

Egyptian MP Mustafa Bakri said that Turkey seeks to fragment the Arab world, and has no right to be involved in an Arab country like Libya, or to conspire against Iraq, Syria, and Yemen. He made these remarks during a TV debate with Samir Salha, a professor of international relations from Istanbul, which aired on Al-Arabiya Network (Dubai/Saudi Arabia) on April 8, 2021. Bakri said that Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has a colonialist mentality and considers it his mission to restore the country’s past glory. He said that Turkey serves a "hostile terrorist organization," referring to the Muslim Brotherhood.

Mustafa Bakri: "With regard to Libya – what is Turkey's connection to an Arab country? Do you have some sort of legacy [over there] that gives you the right you to talk to us? Do you want to dictate who is with whom and who is against whom?"

"Sir, you [Turks] have nothing to do with Libya. You conspire against Iraq, Syria, and Yemen..."

Samir Salha: "That's right. France, Italy, and other [Western countries] have everything to do with Libya, but not Turkey..."

Mustafa Bakri: "You are harming the national security [in the region]. Erdoğan considers himself as someone whose mission is to restore past glory. This is inconceivable. This man has a colonialist mentality. Turkey is only a tool..."

Samir Salha: "Is Haftar the one that was supposed to change the equation?"

Mustafa Bakri: "You are playing a principle role in the 'new Middle East' plan. You are striving to fragmentize the Arab world. You serve a hostile terrorist organization [i.e. the Muslim Brotherhood]."
