Egyptian MP Hazem Farouq: Obama Tries to Sell Us the Hollywood Pattern of Pocahontas and Cowboy Movies

Source: Al-Rafidein TV (Iraq)

Following are excerpts from an interview with Egyptian MP Dr. Hazem Farouq, which aired on Al-Rafidein TV on June 15, 2009.

Hazem Farouq: We would be doing an injustice if we separated Bush's term in office – or even the first 100 days of Obama's term – from its natural context in the history of America, as short as it may be. Let us recall quickly – the U.S. was first established over the bodies of millions of Indians. The Western nation and civilization did not bat an eyelid over the 10, 20, 80, or 100 million Indians – the original inhabitants and the only rightful owners of this land. That was in the beginning. Some people may be proud of this history – but still, that was the beginning. Then came the establishment of the U.S, which became known as the country of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, the country of the Korean War, the country of the Vietnam War, the country of the nuclear bombs, the country of support for colonialism, the country of war and siege against Cuba, and the official, cover and overt, sponsor of the Zionist entity, the dagger stabbed in the loins of the Arab world. It is the country occupying Baghdad, the cradle of the Islamic Caliphate. It is the country that destroys and dismantles the Islamic nation – from Baghdad to Afghanistan, through captive Palestine, and through Pakistan and its Islamic nuclear bomb, and so on. Hence, severing these eight years from their natural historical context is misleading.

Interviewer: I understand from what you have said that what we always see in American cowboy films – a man who kills to stay alive – is characteristic of American society since its establishment. This is the U.S. Hollywood pattern, which President Obama wants to sell us today, and which Bush was selling yesterday, as the U.S. had done in the 40's, 50's, and 60's. This is the same model that was promoted by the Walt Disney company, in its famous animation film Pocahontas, which is about a young Indian girl who gave up her homeland, family, people, and land – in the name of peaceful coexistence and the culture of peace – and fell in love with the plundering soldier who killed her family. This is the model they want to sell today to the Arab and Islamic nation.

From the moment [Obama] announced that he would visit Cairo, to the way he alighted [from the plane], as elegant as a butterfly, the elegant way he climbed the steps of the [palace] in front of President Mubarak, and to the way he entered the hall – everybody comes in from one side, and he comes in from the other... His dazzling rhetoric, his use of verses from the Talmud, the New Testament, and the Koran, his assalam alaykum at the beginning and at the end... This dangerous Hollywood model has captured the hearts of some people.
