Egyptian strategic expert Major-General (Ret.) Samir Farag said in a June 5, 2023 show on Sada Al-Balad TV (Egypt) that the recent shooting on the border between Israel and Egypt in which an Egyptian policeman shot and killed three Israeli soldiers was as tragic for Israel as the day that Prime Minister Golda Meir "announced Israel's defeat" during the Yom Kippur War. He said that Egypt's soldiers are the best soldiers in the world and that one Egyptian man has proven that Israel's military is "worthless."

Interviewer: "We trust our army, our children, our heroes."

Samir Farag: "Exactly. That is because they are truly the best soldiers on earth. Look what one Egyptian guy did..."

Interviewer: "A hero."

Farag: "A tragedy befell Israel today. I am telling you, by Allah, for them it is like the tragic Saturday of October 9, 1973."

Interviewer: "You mean October 6."

Farag: "No, October 9. Golda Meir announced Israel's defeat in a conference with Moshe Dayan on that day.

"That was a tragic Saturday (for the Israelis) and now it is was also a tragic Saturday, because an Egyptian guy did this to them, and proved that the Israel Defense Forces are worthless."
