Egyptian Islamic scholar Mohammad Al-Zoghbi said that Egypt should go to war with Ethiopia, and that it should not sacrifice the people Egypt and Sudan in order to appease the "worthless gang ruling Ethiopia." He made these remarks in an interview that aired on Al-Rahma TV (Egypt) on May 31, 2021. Al-Zoghbi further referred to the Ethiopian government as "completely worthless" and a "bunch of war criminals," and added that Egypt should do away with "this gang." He continued to say that if Egypt and Sudan do not prevent Ethiopia from the second filling of the dam, this would be high treason. Mohammad Al-Zoghbi: "We must go to war [against Ethiopia]. How come? If I have an organ infected with cancer, I do not wait for the cancer to spread to the rest of my body, because it will destroy the entire body. There are over 100 million Egyptians, and over 30 million Sudanese. I will not sacrifice all of them – close to 150 million people – just to appease the worthless gang ruling Ethiopia. They are completely worthless, a bunch of war criminals.

"If you strike and withdraw, and allow [Ethiopian PM] Abiy Ahmed and his cronies to remain in power, they will destroy the Nile. You will have to leave troops over there, to make sure that poison isn't poured [into the river], and so on. For things to be resolved properly, we must do away with the gang. I'm talking about the government and its followers.

[...]

"If Ethiopia completes the second filling of the dam, and Egypt and Sudan fail to deal with it, I believe that this would constitute high treason. I am certain that neither Egypt nor Sudan will allow this."
