Dubai TV Host, Lina Sawwan: 'Us, the Arabs?!'

#122 | 01:32
Source: Dubai

Dubai TV host, Lina Sawwan, opened her weekly talk show with a monologue criticizing Arab mentality. Following are excertps from her monologue:

The Arabs are a people that rely on others, a consuming, lazy people. This is what a British journalist wrote about the Arabs in one of their newspapers early this year. TV host Robert Kilroy-Silk described us, in his well-known article, as people known worldwide for our ability to take without giving. With these words he completely eradicated the Arab existence. I am happy to inform you that this Robert Kilroy-Silk has lost his position as one of the BBC's most successful TV talk show hosts in Britain, because of his ranting against the Arabs, and after the British Arabs protested strongly.

Now that we are rid of his racist and venomous words, we can sit back in front of the TV and ask someone to get us a cup of tea. Relying on others? Laziness? Low endurance? Lack of productivity? Us, the Arabs? Look around you! Do you sit back while your wife organizes the household for tomorrow? Do you lie about while your husband struggles to split his time between the market, the office, the bank, and the kids' school? Are you a university graduate, still living with Mama and waiting for Papa to find you a job? Do we live idly and educate our children to rely on others?Us, the Arabs?

It would not hurt us to ask ourselves these questions.
