In an October 1, 2024 talk at the West Valley Muslim Association in the San Francisco Bay Area, California Imam Amir Abdel Malik Ali warned Muslims to be cautious of attempts to use false flag tactics to frame them as terrorists. He cited the cancellation of a Taylor Swift concert in Europe due to an ISIS threat and the Southport stabbings in the U.K., which were attributed to a Muslim, as examples. Ali argued that the United States is an "empire," and that Muslims living in it must "train," beginning with the study of Islamist Sayyid Qutb's Milestones, a foundational book for the Muslim Brotherhood and jihadi groups like Al-Qaeda.
Imam Ali leads the Oakland branch of As-Sabiqun, a group founded by DC Imam Abdul Alim Musa. As-Sabiqun has been labeled a hate group by the Southern Poverty Law Center and the Anti-Defamation League. Ali has called UC Irvine's Dean Gillman as a "Zionist Jew," explaining that Zionists are "bad Jews," during a Friday sermon at the UC Irvine anti-Israel encampment in May 2024. He asserted in December 2023 that Jews are the new Nazis and warned against false flag attacks that would be attributed to Muslims during a lecture in Santa Clara, California.
Amir Abdel Malik Ali: "Anybody who comes to you and suggests to you to do something violent – that's the police.

"I think that one of the things that they might do, since Islam is like... We're like heroes to the world, and stuff like that... That kind of thing... What they might do is – they might try a couple of false flags. Remember that concert in Romania, was it? The Taylor Swift concert? It had to be canceled, because of ISIS.
"ISIS was going to bomb the concert. So the concert had to be canceled. Okay. Okay. The situation in the U.K., when the put out that it was a Muslim who stabbed those kids [in Southport], Muslims... So we shouldn't be surprised if there is a situation that happens, and they try to pin it on Muslims. One of the things that we should do is call it out as a false flag.

"So having said that, when we see what's happening in the world, and we see that our people who are struggling against occupation, who have a right to resist occupation, but the country that we live in is standing on the wrong side of history, because the country that we live in is an empire, the most powerful richest empire in human history. And here we are, finding ourselves in it. And so, we have to get ourselves ready, and part of that process, again, is our training. Part of it is really checking this bad boy out. So I think next week, starting next Wednesday, there will be a book club on this. There will be a book club on [Sayyid Qutb's] Milestones."
