In a November 15, 2019 Friday sermon delivered in Birjand, Iranian cleric Hossein Mokhtari said that “revolutionary Islam” does not need to confront the whole world, but only “the arrogant” who constitute a small part of the world, specifically the United States, its collaborators, and its lackeys. Adding that most of the world would side with the Muslims against the arrogant if given the opportunity, Mokhtari said that it is acceptable to cooperate with the non-arrogant in economic, social, and international matters even if they are infidels. He cited a Quranic verse that encouraged helping non-Muslims so that they might be exposed to the guidance of Allah. Elaborating that it is the duty of Muslims to fight America, which he described as a leader of disbelief and a source of fitnah and corruption, Mokhtari said: “Our response [has] remained the same: Death to America!” The audience responded by chanting: “Death to America!” The sermon aired on Khorasan Janoobi TV (Iran).

Hossein Mokhtari: We must not think that revolutionary Islam is an Islam that confronts the whole world. We must confront the whole world. Absolutely not. We confront the arrogant, who constitute a small section of the world, not the entire world. Most of the [people in] the world, if given the opportunity, would be on our side and against the arrogant.

We cooperate with the non-arrogant world, even if they are infidels. The Quran says: “If any one of the polytheists seeks your protection, grant him protection, so that he may hear the words of Allah, and deliver him to his place of safety, for they are a people who do not know.”

Non-arrogant infidels are not our enemies. They can all be guided and directed, and we must guide them with friendship, ethics, and logic. To them we say: “You have your religion and I have mine.” As two independent civilizations, we can cooperate in economic, social, and international matters. Our conflict is with arrogant America, its collaborators, and its lackeys. With regard to America, we have a duty to follow [the verses] that tell us to fight the leaders of disbelief until there is no fitnah.

Our response to the arrogant ones, like America – after decades of bullying, fitnah, corruption, killing, and hundreds of thousands of martyrs on our part – has remained the same: Death to America!
