Following are excerpts from an interview with Belgian Islamist Abou Imran, of "Shariah4Belgium," which aired on the Internet on November 9. 2010:
Abou Imran: I am brother Abou Imran from Belgium – born and raised, here in Belgium. With some brothers and sisters, I started a group called "Shariah4Belgium," because we think that we, as Muslims, need to participate in this community, where we live.
Interviewer: Why Shariah4Belgium then?
Abou Imran: Well, why... Brother, listen. We are the third generation. Our grandparents and our parents came over here to Belgium to work and to build Belgium after the World War. Everyone knows the history. But we, as Muslims, need to try to give more to this community. If we see that this community is broken and has no values at all, then we need to come, as Muslims, to bring them the light, and to show them how to live, because, by Allah, we believe that these people live like animals, or even worse than that. This is why we try to show them how to live, how to have an economic system, a social system. This is what we do, this is "Shariah4Belgium."
Interviewer: Why don't you go to Iran, Saudi Arabia, or even Morocco?
Abou Imran: For the same reason that I am in Belgium and I am from Belgium. I am not in Morocco, I am not in Saudi Arabia or Iran. The people who try to bring up this argument, and say: "Why don't you go back to that country or this country, and start Shariah over there, and then you come here with your Shariah?"... Listen brother, and all the viewers: Islam and the Shariah are not alien to Europe. We have ruled in Europe for more than eight centuries. We have ruled over Andalusia, France, Switzerland, and other parts of Europe – so it is not alien. Islam was in Europe, and Islam has given the light to Europe, in the past, so why not do it in 2010?
Interviewer: But according to the people, some Muslims, your religion is not in danger, so why don't you just create a political party in a democracy?
Abou Imran: First of all, it is not about danger or not danger. It is not because my religion is not in danger that I can go and vote and go into politics. If we say Shariah, we believe in: "There is no God but Allah and Muhammad is His Messenger." No one has the right to be obeyed or followed... [other] than Allah.
So, if we believe this, how can we accept democracy as a system or a religion? We all know that democracy is a religion. So the people who try to bring up this issue... My brother, I don't go to a synagogue or to a church, and say I am going to be a priest, and then preach Islam. How could you be a priest and preach Islam? How could you be a politician, a democrat, and go to the parliament – their new church, their new temple – and propagate Islam, and preach Islam? It's impossible!
Interviewer: So you don't become a political party, but some people might consider you as an extremist?
Abou Imran: Allah be praised, if we are extremists, if we are Muslims, and we try to follow our religion and follow the Sunna of our Messenger, and if people call us then terrorists and extremists, then I ask Allah to make me the biggest extremist and terrorist there is. This is very simple.
Interviewer: So you want Shariah in Belgium, and according to Muslims... ordinary people... They might say that Belgium is protecting Muslims...
Abou Imran: Hold on, hold on here. I am sorry, I cannot let you finish this crazy idea. I know you are just a journalist, but look, a lot of people try to make Belgium into the little nice country that has chocolates, a country that is very small, and some issues between the Belgian people.
My brother, we need to be clear, who is the one who made the killing in Rwanda – isn't it Belgium? Who is the one who killed millions of people in the Congo? It's Belgium. Who is the one who supports the Israeli government, and sells arms to the Israeli government? It is Belgium. Who is the one that lets the Americans pass their arms from Antwerp? It is Belgium. Who is the one who is killing our innocent Muslims in Afghanistan – and we all know that, because the Belgian government says that they attack, kill, and bomb the Muslims in Afghanistan...
Because I am Moroccan, or because I am an Arab, I need to say I don't care about the Muslims in Afghanistan? No! We are the same as the Afghani people. You see, I have an Afghani hat, so, praise Allah, we have a [unintelligible] with our Afghani brothers.
So it is very simple. The Belgian government is the enemy of Allah. The Belgian government is the enemy of Islam, the enemy of the Muslims. Everyone needs to know this, everyone needs to understand this. The same thing [is true] for the other European countries. It's not [just] about Belgium – it's about all the European countries that are killing our Muslims all over the world.
Interviewer: But all the people claim that Belgium or France, [which] are allies of the NATO organization, invaded Afghanistan after 9/11. What is your point of view?
Abou Imran: They try to bring up that excuse. Look, it is very simple. It is not that our history has become 9/11. Our religion is more than 9/11. Our community is living longer than the 9/11 attacks. They bombed and killed Muslims before 9/11, so why bring up that issue? Trying to make, from their acts of terror, their criminal acts – trying to make of it as if they didn't do anything. And it's all about the Muslims...
Mullah Omar, the head of Taliban, may Allah protect him and give him victory, said to the Americans, in October 2001, before they attacked Afghanistan: "Look, you have a problem with Sheik Osama, you have a problem with some members of Al-Qaeda. No problem, bring me the evidence, and I will take him to court, and if he did something wrong, I will judge him." It is very simple – [trial] in a Shariah court in Afghanistan... Did the Americans accept this? He said to them: "Okay, not in Afghanistan, not in a Shariah court, bring me the evidence, and I will take Sheik Osama, and I will try to judge him in other countries." Did they accept this?
These people don't care about 9/11. 9/11 is just something they can use to kill and bomb the Muslims. George W. Bush, may Allah curse him and his father...
Interviewer: Amen...
Abou Imran: He said that they were going to invade Iraq and Afghanistan anyway, and he said: "Let it be the same as a Crusade." So this is about a Crusade, it is not about 9/11 or anything else. People need to understand that they are Muslims. You need to understand that these people are Crusaders. These people are people who love to kill, they live for the sake of the Devil. Their thing is worshipping the Devil and killing Muslims – we need to understand this.
Interviewer: So now they are fighting in Iraq, Afghanistan, Somalia, and Yemen, but some counter-terrorism experts fear the creation of an Islamic state in their own backyards. What is your opinion about the creation of Shariah for Europe?
Abou Imran: Praise Allah, that is a nice thing, obviously. Some days ago, I was reading, and I found out that Imam Al-Qurtubi [a thirteenth-century Islamic scholar] said that the house of the Caliph will be in Andalusia. This is a very nice thing, and some scholars say that it's about Europe. Allah willing, I can give them the glad tidings. The counter-terrorism, the NSA, Mossad, and FBI, and all the others, and the RAND Corporation...
I will give them the glad tidings – that Europe will be dominated by Islam. We will rule over Europe, because the Prophet [Muhammad] has promised us victory, and he said that the Hour [Judgment Day] will not come until a group of this nation, will conquer the White House and conquer Rome. So we will conquer, Allah willing.
We ask Allah to give us the power and give us the victory to conquer Europe, and conquer the White House, in our lifetime, and if not – our children, Allah willing. We are preparing [unintelligible].
