In a March 5, 2025, interview with Al-Arabiya Network (Saudi Arabia), Arab League Secretary-General Ahmed Aboul Gheit rejected President Trump’s Gaza relocation plan. He compared the scale of destruction in Gaza to that of Warsaw and German cities after World War II, noting that despite the devastation, no one suggested that the Polish or German populations leave their countries. Aboul Gheit emphasized that one of the main goals of the Arab initiative and the Arab summit is to prevent the displacement of people. While acknowledging the right to resistance against occupation, he stated that the October 7 attack "took a wrong turn," leading to the destruction of Gaza and the deaths of 1,200 Israeli civilians.
Ahmed Aboul Gheit: "In 1944 and 1945, Warsaw was destroyed to a much larger extent than Gaza now, and so were all the German cities at the end of World War II. You can compare the photos of Gaza today with photos of Berlin, for example, in May 1945. No one asked the Poles or the Germans to leave their country. What does the Arab plan say? That the people will not be displaced. This is one of the goals of the Arab initiative and the Arab summit.

"[Trump's] positions are unjust towards the Palestinian people, and they do not take into consideration the historical precedents of cities that suffered great destruction, yet their people were not driven out to other places.

"Resistance comes in all kinds of forms. The use of weapons without clear and defined [boundaries] led to... - Led to what in your view?"
Interviewer: "I am here to listen to your opinion."
Aboul Gheit: "It led to the situation where not a single house in Gaza is still standing, and all the Palestinians are living in camps. Using weapons while being the weaker side led to this outcome. The thing is that Gaza is not like Algeria. Gaza is not like Vietnam, where you have vast areas of jungles and mountains, with a tropical climate, rain, and forests. No, you need to know the environment..."
Interviewer: "You mean that the destruction of Gaza was the outcome of what happened on October 7?"
Aboul Gheit: "Absolutely. This is why I called it a resistance operation...
"I do not deny the right to resistance, as long as there is occupation, and as long as [the other side] refuses to end the occupation, or to reach a political settlement between Palestine and Israel. However, this military operation by the resistance took the wrong direction, because it led to the killing of 1,200 Israeli civilians."
