Afghan Version Of Italian Protest Song 'Bella Ciao' Circulates Online: Only Justice! We Will Shout Until We Are Freed From Force And Tyranny

Source: Online Platforms - "the Baban Seqizi Twitter account"

On November 14, 2022, a video of an Afghan woman singing a Dari version of the Italian protest song "Bella Ciao" was posted to the Baban Seqizi Twitter account. Versions of the song in Farsi have been linked to the anti-regime protests in Iran, created by two Iranian sisters (see MEMRI TV clip no. 9935).  In the Afghan version, a woman sings: "We may not witness another day, a new day and a new death. In the streets calls for uprising… We will shout until we are freed from force and tyranny… We will not fear nor waver, we are here until our last breath."

Singer: "The night is over, another dawn is here, oh bella ciao, bella ciao, bella ciao, ciao, ciao. We go out to the bloody town, we may never return. We may not witness another day, a new day and a new death. In the streets, calls for uprising, oh bella ciao, bella ciao, bella ciao, ciao, ciao. We will shout until we are freed from force and tyranny. We will experience an unequal war one more time.

"We have the same voice, we are united, and [we are] friends, oh bella ciao, bella ciao, bella ciao, ciao, ciao. We are victorious, freedom is here, in our fists and in our shouts. Only justice, no to ignorance, no to force and to [illegitimate] power.

"All back to back, with our fists, oh bella ciao, bella ciao, bella ciao, ciao, ciao. We will not fear waver, we are here until our last breath. If we get the change to return, oh bella ciao, bella ciao, bella ciao, ciao, ciao. Either we are all together or we are all alone. With love and joy, another day, once again [in the] streets, with the slogan of freedom."
