Sudanese Imam Muhammad Al-Amin Ismail Breaks Down Over The Inclusion Of Michelangelo's 'The Creation Of Adam' In A New History Textbook: Let Us Close Our Schools!

Sudanese Imam Muhammad Al-Amin Ismail condemned a sixth-grade history textbook in a Friday sermon on January 1, 2021, which was posted on his YouTube channel. The book featured The Creation of Adam from Michelangelo's Sistine Chapel fresco on several pages of the book. Imam Ismail said that the director of the National Centre for Curricula and Educational Research, Dr. Omar El Garai, who had showcased the book in a press conference, "defends heresy and atheism." Al-Amin Ismail then waved the book in his hand and started repeatedly, shouting "Allah! Allah!" He then burst into tears and started weeping and wailing along with his congregants. Imam Ismail then declared: "Let's close the schools" and said that the pictures show the Lord "hugging a naked woman." The textbook sparked controversy in Sudan, and Dr. El Garai was ultimately fired. In 2011, Muhammad Al-Amin Ismail drew international attention when he accused Shi'ites of distributing toy guns with anti-Sunni messages (see MEMRI TV clip No. 3175).

Sheikh Muhammad Al-Amin Ismail: "This is the history textbook for sixth grade. History! What does one find in this book?

"European renaissance... And this is the picture on the cover. I wish it were only done once, but it appears on page 40, and then on page 45, with the caption: 'The Creation of Adam, a painting by Michelangelo.' [The Director of the National Centre for Curricula] displayed it in a press conference. SUNA news agency, the official news agency of Sudan, our national news agency, gives voice to a man who defends heresy and atheism, and justifies the depicting of God in human form... Allah... Allah! Allah! Allah! Allah! Allah! Allah! Allah! There is no god but Allah! There is no god but Allah! There is no god but Allah!

"He put a picture, on page 40 and then again on page 44, and labeled it: 'The Creation of Adam, a painting by Michelangelo.'
