In Memorial: Sheldon Adelson, A Jewish-American Hero
Sheldon Adelson was a Jewish-American hero. He never backed away in the face of antisemitism and antisemitic incitement, and never overlooked it or turned a blind eye to it. In our meetings, he encouraged me to expose it as much as we could.
He sensed that the current wave of antisemitism was about to wash over America and the world over. From imams who did not hesitate to call publicly for killing Jews in mosques in the U.S. to other existential threats by state sponsored terrorist regimes and their followers all devoted to the destruction of both America and Israel.
Sheldon was truly a fearless compatriot and supporter of the United States and Israel. His unparalleled individualism was singularly matched by a prophetic vision, and commitment, which set him apart from all the rest in everything that he undertook and valued.
MEMRI was uniquely honored to have known him and to have been so graciously embraced by his genuine friendship, and truly outstanding generosity.
His exceptional role and vital impact on America, Israel, and its people are legendary and will always be remembered.
On behalf of MEMRI and myself, I extend our sincerest condolences to his wife, Dr. Miriam Adelson, their children and grandchildren and the entire Adelson family.
