Prominent Writer on Jihadist Websites: If the West Interferes in Libya, It Will Face a War Far Worse Than the One in Iraq

The website Shumoukh Al-Islam posted an article by a prominent writer on the jihadi forums who calls himself "Assad Al-Jihad 2" ("Lion of Jihad 2"), dated February 27, 2011 and titled "Tell NATO and Its Sons That There Are [Real] Men in Libya."

The author, who is described as "the spearhead of the mujahideen," begins the article by praising the Muslims of the Maghreb throughout the ages for their war against the infidels, and by calling on the Muslims to renew the era of jihad and expel the agents of imperialism from their midst. Addressing the Libyans, he urges them to learn from the experience of the Tunisians and Egyptians, and refrain from leaving figures from the old regime in key positions, because they are tools of the West and may serve Western agendas. Hence, he advises prosecuting all these figures for their part in oppressing the Libyan people, even if they renounce their ties with the old regime and join the revolution.

Assad Al-Jihad 2 calls to establish an Islamic state in Libya, or even in part of it, like the Christian state that has been established in southern Sudan. He threatens that any Western opposition to the establishment of an Islamic state, and any Western interference in the affairs of the Maghreb, will trigger a horrible war against the West in the region, which will make the war in Iraq look like "a walk in the park."

Finally, he states that at decisive moments in history, small elite groups with strong beliefs (like the mujahideen), can seize the day and rise to power. ...
