Special Announcements No. 536

We would like to take this opportunity to follow up with you about our Spring 2017 Campaign.

As you know, the research that goes into producing the reports that we send directly to your inbox every day is highly resource-intensive. Without donors like you, we would not be able to continue these efforts.  PLEASE CONSIDER DONATING TODAY.

Twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year, MEMRI supports the hard work of Western governments, militaries, intelligence, and law enforcement agencies to fight terrorism and promote reform in the Middle East.  But to sustain this work, we need YOUR help.

MEMRI is constantly researching, monitoring, translating, and analyzing the following for YOU:

  • Voices of reform and counter-radicalization in the Arab world and South Asia;
  • Russia's involvement and impact in the Syria crisis and in Iran;
  • Developments in Iran, including its response to the new U.S. administration and its resulting attempts to strengthen ties with Russia, and Iran's adherence to the JCPOA that grants it nuclear-state status and provides its regime with protection from the West;
  • Global jihadi organizations, particularly the Islamic State (ISIS) and Al-Qaeda and its offshoots, and their supporters in the West and the threat that they pose to the U.S. – as well as the lone-wolf attacks for which these organizations claim responsibility;
  • Sunni-Shi'ite tensions, including the recent wide-scale deadly attacks on civilians in the region;
  • Palestinian Authority payments to imprisoned terrorists and their families as well as to the families of "martyrs," as well as Palestinian resistance to UNRWA efforts to amend the curricula in its schools in the West Bank and Gaza for greater political neutrality;
  • Antisemitism and Holocaust denial in the Arab and Muslim world, including continuing to expose imams who preach antisemitism as well as incite to jihadi violence in Europe and North America.
  • Additionally, every day, the MEMRI Cyber Jihad Lab (CJL) project exposes jihadi communications, including encrypted communications, and reports on jihadi hacking attacks – it is a vital resource for U.S. lawmakers and for Western counter-messaging and other crucial efforts to thwart ISIS and other terrorist groups.

MEMRI SUPPORTS WESTERN COUNTERTERRORISM AND COUNTER-MESSAGING EFFORTS

A major area of focus so far in 2017 for the MEMRI Jihad and Terrorism Threat Monitor (JTTM) project has been the terror attacks in France, the United Kingdom, Germany, Sweden, Russia, and elsewhere, the developments that preceded these attacks in the West, and reactions to the attacks among the global jihadi community. This research is vital to Western policymakers' counterterrorism strategies.

MEMRI TRANSLATIONS ASSIST POLICYMAKERS IN UNDERSTANDING RUSSIA'S ACTIVITY AND INTENTIONS

The MEMRI Russian Media Studies Project provides Western governments and legislatures with a crucial window for understanding Russia's political discourse, vision, and goals, and analyzes the ramifications of its constantly increasing involvement in the Middle East and the challenges it will pose to U.S. and Western national security interests.
