Palestinian Authority Daily Mocks Hamas' Armed Operatives In Gaza: Throughout The War They Hid Among Civilians And Caused Many Deaths, Yet Now They Parade Around In Uniform

Palestinians | Special Dispatch No. 11794

The January 22, 2025 editorial of the Palestinian Authority (PA) daily Al-Hayat Al-Jadida slammed Hamas for the fact that its militants have now resurfaced and are parading around Gaza in uniform again, after, for 15 months, they hid among civilians wearing civilian clothing, and fought the Israeli forces from among the people's homes, thus increasing the number of civilian deaths. The editorial also condemned Hamas and its supporters, including "the channel of deception," namely the Qatari Al-Jazeera channel, for peddling the false and "idiotic" narrative that Hamas has won the war.

Hamas armed operatives in Gaza during January 19, 2025 transfer of three Israeli hostages (T.me/ShehabTelegram, January 19, 2025)

The following are translated excerpts from the editorial.[1]

"Recently, during the transfer of three Israeli female hostages [to Israel as part of the ceasefire agreement], Hamas operatives were seen parading [around Gaza again,] armed, masked, and in military uniform. For 15 months of war, we did not see a single one of these operatives in uniform. On the contrary, they wore civilian clothes and sandals, and some of them were in pajamas. They would fire their shells at the armored vehicles of the occupation army from among the people's homes and [then] retreat behind those same homes, as documented by the Al-Jazeera satellite channel. This behavior – along with the violent, racist Israeli response to these shells – contributed to increasing the fatalities among the civilian population, the residents of the [Gaza] Strip... The only one who appeared masked and in uniform was Hamas' military spokesman [Abu Obeida], but that was [just] on the screen of the Al-Jazeera satellite channel…

"For 15 months of bitter war Hamas did not dare show a single operative in military uniform! But the minute the hudna agreement [i.e., the ceasefire agreement with Israel] silenced the cannons, Hamas sent out its operatives in military uniform again, not just to parade around, but to convey a false narrative of victory!! Groups from Hamas itself began to spew and praise this narrative at length, and so did the opportunists of [Al-Jazeera,] the satellite channel of deception and fitna [civil war], who took advantage of the emotional moment [of the start of the ceasefire]…

"Rhetoric does not create victory… [Hamas and its supporters] cannot create a narrative of victory when there is no trace of this victory on the ground, even among the rubble. The rubble in Gaza hides nothing but the bodies of the victims…

"Hamas' narrative of victory is an absurd myth, as evident from the fact that it is just popular rhetoric and bears no connection to reality. It is just like the narrative composed by the Syrian regime after its June 5, 1967 defeat [in the war with Israel], which presented the fact that the regime survived and remained in power as proof that it had won, although it no longer controlled the Syrian Golan, which was occupied [by Israel] and remains so to this very day!!..."
