November 3, 2011
North Africa, Tunisia | Special Dispatch No. 4253

Earlier this week, Saudi Al-Arabiya TV reported that U.S. President Barack Obama's "Obama for America" 2012 reelection campaign Facebook page (facebook.com/barackobama) was being spammed, with over 20,000 comments from Tunisians supporting the Occupy Wall Street protests in the U.S., and criticizing him on a variety of issues.[1]

Among the comments are: "Tunisia is the first country to recognize the American Transitional National Council" – a reference to the world's recognition of Libya's transitional council – and "Tunisian people are calling the U.S. authorities to respect freedom of expression and not to resort repression and assault on the rights of American citizens." Other comments were: "[A] group of Tunisians... decided to invade your president's page in a way to show solidarity with protesters of Wallstreet"; "obama = ben ali" and "Tunisia with all americain peaple ;) obama out"; "In Tunisia we have outrun you Mr. Obama it is not only about 'Yes we can' it is about 'Yes we do" and indeed we did it" – and even "islam is the key and not the problem."

The following are some of Tunisian comments posted on the "Obama for America" Facebook page, in Arabic, English, and French.
