Pakistani PM Vows To Crush "Islamist Lords Of Islam"

Pakistani Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani has said that his government will not allow the Taliban in Pakistan’s North West Frontier Province and its adjoining tribal districts to burn girls' schools and behead people for alleged crimes. According to a report in the Urdu-language newspaper Nawa-i-Waqt, Gilani said: "We cannot accept [the Taliban's] beheading of people openly in the federally administered tribal districts. It is necessary to crush these thekedars [monopolists/lords] of Islam." Prime Minister Gilani defended the military operation against the Taliban in the tribal district of Khyber Agency, saying it was necessary because the Islamists were indulging in crimes and were destroying girls' schools.

Contractors Warned Not To Supply Fuel To U.S. Forces

Unknown persons have distributed pamphlets in the areas near Karachi Port warning truckers, contractors and owners of oil tankers not to supply oil to U.S. forces deployed in Afghanistan. According to a report in the Urdu-language newspaper Roznama Jasarat, Karachi Oil Tankers and Contractors Association head Gul Muhammad Afridi said that this is the second time such pamphlets have been distributed in the area. Afridi said that similar pamphlets warning the oil suppliers were distributed about two months ago.

Women Barred From Voting In Pakistan's Mardan District

Women were not allowed to vote in Thursday's by-polls in the Mardan district of Pakistan's North West Frontier Province following an agreement reached between the candidates of all political parties. According to a report in the Urdu-language newspaper Roznama Jasarat, no female voter cast her ballot in women's polling stations in the district. The paper said that this was because local tradition banned women from leaving home.

Dr. Khan: U.S. Has Plan To Dismantle Pakistan By 2015

Pakistan's disgraced nuclear scientist Dr. Abdul Qadeer Khan has said the U.S. is working on a plan to dismantle Pakistan by 2015. The Urdu-language newspaper Roznama Khabrain quoted Dr. Khan as saying that President Pervez Musharraf is working on the U.S. agenda to break up Pakistan. According to the report, Dr. Khan also acknowledged his role in international nuclear proliferation in the Pakistani national interest, because he was told that if he did not do so, Pakistan would be bombed. According to the report, the Pakistani nuclear scientist also said that former prime minister Benazir Bhutto was assassinated because she had announced plans for an investigation into the Pakistani nuclear program.

10 Girls' Schools Set Afire, Checkposts In Swat District Attacked

Ten girls' schools were set afire on the night between Tuesday and Wednesday in the Swat district of Pakistan's North West Frontier Province. According to a report in the Urdu-language newspaper Roznama Jang, all school buildings and furniture were destroyed in the incident. According to the report, several security check-posts maintained by police and paramilitary forces in the Swat district also came under heavy attack that night, killing one member of the paramilitary force.

Pakistan: Military Action Against Militants To Be Last Option

A high-level meeting presided over by Pakistani Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani has authorized army chief Gen. Ashfaq Kiyani to conduct military operations to expel foreign militants from Pakistan's tribal districts. According to a report in the Urdu-language newspaper Roznama Jang, the tribal elders will bear the primary responsibility for expelling the foreign militants, and military action will be the last option. According to the report, the meeting decided that the Frontier Corps, a paramilitary force, will work under the civilian government of Chief Minister Ameer Haider Hoti to maintain law and order in the North West Frontier Province. However, for the purposes of military operation, the Frontier Corps, of about 80,000 men, will work under the Pakistan Army. According to the report, the military operation will be carried out on the basis of intelligence information.

Gov't To Drop Cases Against 600 Taliban Fighters

The secular government in Pakistan's North West Frontier Province (NWFP) has decided to withdraw cases against 600 Taliban fighters in the Swat district. The Urdu-language newspaper Roznama Mashriq reported that the Taliban had demanded the withdrawal of cases against 600 fighters as part of the peace deal with the NWFP government. According to the report, a committee comprising provincial government and police officials recommended the withdrawal of the cases after a review. The decision awaits the final signature of NWFP Chief Minister Ameer Haider Hoti. According to the report, the NWFP government has assured the Taliban that it will implement all clauses of the deal.

16 Christians Abducted From Peshawar Released

An unnamed group has released 16 Christians who were abducted at gunpoint from a prayer meeting in Peshawar, the capital of Pakistan's North West Frontier Province. According to a report in the Urdu-language newspaper Roznama Jang, they were released following negotiations with government officials in the tribal district of Khyber Agency.

Former Pakistani Minister: U.S. Behind Suicide Attacks

Former Pakistani minister Nisar Muhammad Khan has said that the U.S. is behind the suicide attacks in Pakistan. The Urdu-language newspaper Roznama Mashriq quoted Nisar Khan as saying that U.S. agents, not the Taliban, are behind the suicide attacks. According to the report, the former Pakistani minister said that the U.S. agents are perpetrating the suicide attacks in order to weaken Pakistan and to defame the Taliban movement. He said that the people of Pakistan should recognize their enemies.

Pakistani Daily: 2,000 RAW, Mossad Agents In Afghanistan, Spreading Web In Pakistan

Pakistan's mass-circulation Urdu-language newspaper Roznama Jang reports that some 2,000 intelligence agents from India's Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) and Israel's Mossad are working in Afghanistan. The paper said it learned through its own defense sources that the Pentagon had asked Israel and India to deploy these agents to help NATO and U.S. troops in Afghanistan. According to the report, the RAW and Mossad agents are also tasked with spreading their web inside Pakistan, and the Mossad agents will work for free but about 1,300 RAW agents will be paid 1.5 billion Indian Rupees per month.

Taliban Capture U.S. Helicopters Being Shipped To Afghanistan

Pakistani Taliban have captured three U.S. helicopters that were being shipped in containers from the Pakistani city of Peshawar to the Afghan city of Jalalabad. The Urdu-newspaper Roznama Jang said that the incident, which occurred a few weeks ago, was confirmed by Pakistan government officials. The paper said that U.S. officials based in Islamabad have not denied the incident, but are trying to cover it up. It added that when asked about it incident, a U.S. Embassy official said, "No comment." The three helicopters were a Chinook, a Black Hawk, and a Cobra.

Senate Leader Speaks of "Another Dismemberment of Pakistan"

Deputy Chairman of Pakistani Senate Jan Mohammad Jamali has spoken of "another dismemberment of the country" if the provinces are not given their due. According to a report in Dawn newspaper, Jamali, speaking on the floor of the Senate, warned: "You have to give provincial autonomy [to Baluchistan] soon. Time is running out fast." The expression "another dismemberment" refers to the creation of Bangladesh out of Pakistan in the 1971 war. According to another report in the Urdu-language newspaper Roznama Nawa-i-Waqt, Jan Mohammad Jamali said the day was not far off when Pakistanis would require visa to enter Baluchistan. He said that Islamabad's discriminatory attitude toward Baluchistan has forced him to think beyond the demand for provincial autonomy.

Muslim Youth Sentenced To Death For Blasphemy

A court in the Pakistani city of Sialkot has awarded the death sentence to a Muslim youth for blaspheming the Prophet Muhammad. According to the report, Judge Shoaib Ahmad Rumi also sentenced Shafeeq Latif to a life in prison and fined him 50,000 rupees, in another case of insulting the Koran.

Top Bureaucrat: The Wave Of Militancy Has Reached Peshawar

The top civil servant in Pakistan's North West Frontier Province (NWFP) has said that the Taliban militancy has reached the provincial capital of Peshawar. The Urdu-language newspaper Roznama Mashriq quoted NWFP's Interior Secretary Tipu Mohabbat Khan as saying that coordinated efforts are being made to stop the militancy. According to the report, Mohabbat Khan said the situation has turned out to be a challenge for the policemen in the province. He said the police administration is recruiting about 15,000 youths into the provincial police force to meet the challenge of the emerging situation. Mohabbat Khan is the second top official in the NWFP to warn of Taliban's march toward capturing the city of Peshawar. Early this month, NWFP's police chief Malik Naved Khan expressed concern that the Taliban would soon take over the control of Peshawar.

150,000 Taliban Fighters United Under Baitullah Mehsud

Former Pakistani lawmaker and Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (S) leader Shah Abdul Aziz has said that about 150,000 fighters are united under the leadership of Taliban commander Baitullah Mehsud in Pakistan's tribal districts. The Urdu-language newspaper Roznama Jasarat quoted Abdul Aziz as saying that no one can capture Baitullah Mehsud, as two dozen fighters guard his security. According to the report, Abdul Aziz said that the 150,000 fighters loyal to Baitullah Mehsud are spread across the tribal districts of Bajaur, Mohmand, Khyber, South and North Waziristan, and Swat.

Taliban Spokesman: Jihad Is Our Mission Against U.S.

Taliban spokesman Maulvi Omar has condemned President Hamid Karzai of Afghanistan for his statement that Afghanistan forces will cross into Pakistan to capture the Taliban leaders. The Urdu-language newspaper Roznama Jasarat quoted Maulvi Omar as saying that Karzai's statement is against international law. According to the report, Maulvi Omar said that the Taliban are against the U.S., not Afghanistan, saying, "We are against the Americans, and waging jihad against them is our mission." Hamid Karzai recently threatened to send troops into Pakistan over Taliban attacks in Afghanistan.

Deal With Taliban To Go Ahead In Swat District

The government in Pakistan's North West Frontier Province (NWFP) and the Taliban have decided to continue with the peace deal signed between them in May. According to a report in the Urdu-language newspaper Roznama Jang, the deal is to be implemented in the province's Swat district. According to the report, the Taliban were represented by their spokesman Haji Muslim Khan and senior NWFP minister Bashir Ahmad Bilour in the talks last Sunday. The talks followed a recent statement by Rahman Malik, homeland security adviser to the Pakistani prime minister, in which he said the deal had ended.

Taliban To Pakistan: End Ties With U.S. Or War Will Continue

The local Taliban leaders in Pakistan's tribal district of Mohmand Agency have asked the government of Pakistan to sever relations with the U.S., stipulating that if it does not, the war against the U.S. and allied troops will continue. The statement follows a U.S. attack in which more than a dozen Pakistani troops were killed in Mohmand Agency.

According to a report in the Urdu-language newspaper Roznama Mashriq, the Taliban leaders issued the warning after a meeting attended by Emir of Taliban in Mohmand Agency Umar Kahlid and his deputy Qari Shakil. According to the report, the Taliban leaders accused the Western forces of dividing the Muslim ummah into different nations, and said that the U.S. and other Western powers are using different tactics to pitch Muslims against Muslims.

Jihad Declared In Pakistan Against U.S.

The Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (F) has declared jihad against the U.S. in response to a missile attack that killed more than a dozen Pakistani soldiers and civilians in the tribal district of Mohmand Agency. The Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (F) is headed by Maulana Fazlur Rahman. According to a report in the Urdu-language newspaper Roznama Jang, the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (F) organized a protest in Charsadda town in Pakistan's North West Frontier Province against the U.S. attack. The protest was led by former member of Pakistani parliament and Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (F) leader Maulana Syed Gauhar Shah. According to the report, during the protest Maulana Gauhar Shah declared jihad against the U.S. A resolution was also passed on the occasion, demanding the Pakistani government to sever its ties with the U.S.

Taliban Vow Blood Revenge, Prepare Tribal Army Against U.S.

The local Taliban in Pakistan's tribal district of Mohmand Agency have vowed to retaliate against the U.S. for the missile attack that killed more than a dozen Pakistani soldiers and civilians. Jamaat-e-Islami: U.S. Attack – Declaration Of War Against Pakistan

Politicians and religious leaders in Pakistan have reacted strongly to a U.S. attack that killed more than a dozen Pakistani soldiers, including a major, and civilians in the tribal district of Mohmand Agency. According to a report in the Urdu-language newspaper Roznama Express, Emir of Jamaat-e-Islami in the North West Frontier Province Sirajul Haq described the U.S. attack as a declaration of war on Pakistan. According to the report, Jamaat-e-Islami Emir Qazi Hussein Ahmed said the attack was constituted open aggression against the unity of Pakistan. His deputy Professor Khurshid Ahmed also described the attack as a declaration of war on Pakistan. Former prime minister Nawaz Sharif, his brother and chief minister of Punjab province Shahbaz Sharif, and several other political, religious and militant leaders condemned the attack. Pakistan: Reports Of U.S. Base In Tribal Districts Groundless

Pakistan has dismissed as groundless media reports that the government has given permission to the U.S. to establish a military base in the federally administered tribal districts. The Urdu-language newspaper Roznama Mashriq quoted the Pakistani President's spokesman Rashid Qureshi as saying that these reports have no truth in them. According to the report, Rashid Qureshi clarified that President Pervez Musharraf has said on several occasions that only Pakistani armed forces can carry out any activity in the tribal districts. Pakistan's tribal districts are largely controlled by the Taliban.

Militant Leader: Hindus, Jews, Crusaders United Against Islam

Emir of Jamatud Dawa Pakistan Professor Hafiz Saeed has said that Hindus, Jews, and Crusaders are united in their campaign against Islam. Jamatud Dawa is the new name of the outlawed Pakistani militant group Lashkar-e-Taiba. The Urdu-language newspaper Roznama Jasarat quoted Hafiz Saeed as saying that Hindus, Jews and Crusaders are out to achieve their objectives under the pretext of the war on terror. He said that Pakistan is under mounting pressure to hand over its nuclear program and Kashmir to the enemies. According to the report, Hafiz Saeed said that the purpose of the reprinting of the Muhammad cartoons in Denmark was to stop the spread of Islam. He said, "The kuffar of Europe are worried over the spread of Islam. The Kuffar are more worried over it than over Afghanistan and Iraq."

Report: 26 Suicide Attacks In Pakistan This Year

Twenty-six suicide blasts in Pakistan killed more than 340 people and wounded about 700 others as of June 2 this year, according to a government report. Roznama Jang: Foreign Diplomats Clueless About Developments In Pakistan

Foreign diplomats based in Islamabad are passing through a period of confusion in their grasp of Pakistani politics, after the new government of Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani came to power following the February 18 polls. Bombs Destroy 40 Music Shops In Pakistan

About 40 shops selling entertainment CDs and DVDs have been destroyed in bomb blasts in the bazaars of Miranshah and Kohat towns in Pakistan. According to a report in the Urdu-language newspaper Roznama Mashriq, bombs targeted three markets in Miranshah in the federally administered district of North Waziristan, destroying a number of music shops, a hairdresser's, and a hotel. According to the report, several shop owners had received warnings to stop anti-Islamic business. In another incident, a bomb destroyed six music shops in the town of Kohat in North West Frontier Province.

Jamaat-e-Islami Leader In Iran: U.S. Wants Genocide Of Muslims

The Emir of Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan in the province of Baluchistan Maulana, Abdul Haq Hashmi, has said that the U.S. seeks genocide of Muslims. The Urdu-language newspaper Roznama Jasarat quoted Maulana Hashmi as saying that the U.S. launched the war on terror in order to carry out genocide of Muslims and to control the natural resources of Muslim nations. According to the report, Maulana Abdul Haq Hashmi made the statement in Tehran on the occasion of the 19th anniversary of the death of Imam Khomeini. He said that the world again needs a leader like Khomeini to counter the "international terrorist United States."

Police Chief: Soon Peshawar Will Be In Taliban's Hands

The police chief in Pakistan's North West Frontier Province (NWFP) has said that if the government fails to take action against the local Taliban, the provincial capital of Peshawar will soon be in its control. The Pakistani Taliban are also described as local Taliban. The Urdu-language newspaper Roznama Jasarat quoted NWFP Inspector General of Police Malik Naved Khan as saying that Peshawar faces threats from local Taliban activities in its vicinity. According to the report, he said the only way to counter their activities was to create a 300,000-strong force comprising youths to undertake developmental work in the tribal districts.

Taliban Set Up Prisons In Tribal District Of Mohmand Agency

Deputy Emir of Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (Movement of the Pakistani Taliban) in the federally-administered tribal district of Mohmand Agency Qari Shakeel Khan has said that about 25,000 fighters work for him. The Urdu-language newspaper Roznama Mashriq quoted Qari Shakeel Khan as saying that he has set up "reform committees" and "complaints cells" where a Qazi (judge) and his advisors resolve people's disputes in accordance with shari'a. According to the report, Qari Shakeel Khan said that prisons have also been established, and in them criminals are given Islamic punishments such as flogging.

Editorial: Use Of Cell-Phone SIMs In Bomb Blasts

In an editorial, the Urdu-language newspaper Roznama Mashriq wrote: "Reports about bomb blasts and suicide attacks sent by the investigating agencies to the federal government [of Pakistan] reveal that many of the blasts were triggered by mobile phones; in some cases the explosives-packed jackets of suicide bombers were blown up by remote controls.... Report: 250 Bomb Blasts In Pakistan This Year

With the attack on the Danish embassy in Islamabad on Monday, Pakistan has witnessed 250 bomb blasts this year, of which 27 were large-scale explosions, said the Urdu-language newspaper Roznama Jasarat. More than 200 people were killed and 700 wounded in the 27 large blasts, which occurred in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Lahore, Peshawar and other parts of Pakistan. According to the report, most of the blasts targeted government and security officials. The paper added that last year, there were 57 suicide blasts that killed 700 people.

Mountaineers Back Away From Climbing K2 For Fear Bin Laden is There

Mountaineers from across the world have developed second thoughts about climbing Pakistan's K2 Mountains after media reports emerged that Al-Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden may be hiding there. According to a report in the Urdu-language newspaper Roznama Mashriq, about 80 teams of foreign mountaineers had submitted applications to climb the K2 but were now expressing security fears.
