Since U.S. President Joe Biden replaced former president Donald Trump, the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (the Taliban organization) has been worried that the Doha agreement, which it signed with the U.S. and which is considered an achievement of the former president, might be ignored, diluted, and even formally abrogated.

On March 2, 2021, a Telegram channel affiliated with Iran-backed militias in Iraq posted in English claiming that the so-called Iraqi resistance factions have the capacity to target U.S. forces not only in the Middle East, but also inside the United States.

Two days before Pope Francis' planned visit to Iraq, an official in the Hizbullah Brigades, an Iran-backed Shi'ite Iraqi militia, criticized the visit and called on Iraqis not to pin too many hopes on it.

On March 3, 2021, a user on the Rocket.Chat site Techhaven.to which is run by pro-Islamic State (ISIS) operatives, posted a message on one of the platform's main channels asking for "guidance" from other users.
