In a communiqué posted January 29, 2009 on Islamist forums, the Salafi-jihadist Palestinian organization Jaysh Al-Islam denies any connection to Muhammad Shawqi Mahmoud, who is currently serving a four-year sentence in Austria for his involvement in producing a video threatening terrorist operations against Germany and Austria. According to the communiqué, Mahmoud was also charged with having ties to Jaysh Al-Islam, which was responsible for the 2007 kidnapping of British journalist Alan Johnston in Gaza, but this claim is not corroborated by reports in the international media....
