In the fifth issue of Al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula's (AQAP) English-language magazine Inspire, published on March 29, 2011, the magazine's editor, Yahya Ibrahim, wrote an article dealing with recent popular revolutions in the Arab world. Ibrahim contends that these revolutions serve Al-Qaeda, and refutes the Western claim that non-violent protests, such as those in Egypt and Tunisia, eliminate the need for violent jihad and organizations such as Al-Qaeda.
