In recent months, the Pakistani branch of British Islamist organization Hizbut Tahrir (which campaigns for establishing an Islamic caliphate across the world) has been in news headlines for its campaign to recruit Pakistani soldiers to its cause. Despite a government ban, the international Islamist organization continues to carry out its activities in Pakistan openly, holding events and publishing literature while administering its website.

Hizbut Tahrir Urges Dissension In Pakistani Army Over Likely Operation In North Waziristan

On May 31, 2011, the Pakistani branch of international Islamist organization Hizbut Tahrir published a statement calling for "material support" from Pakistani Army soldiers for establishing caliphate in Pakistan and to eject America from the region. In the statement, Hizbut Tahrir criticized Pakistani military leaders for allegedly agreeing to a U.S.-supported military operation against the Taliban and Al-Qaeda in North Waziristan.

After Attack On Pakistan Naval Base, Hizbut Tahrir Urges Pakistan Army Officers To Uproot 'Treacherous' Pakistani Rulers

In the wake of the May 22 attack on PNS Mehran, the headquarters of Pakistan Navy in Karachi, Hizbut Tahrir blamed the attack on the U.S. and urged Pakistani soldiers to uproot the country's rulers so as to establish an Islamic caliphate. In a statement issued on May 23, the outlawed group said: "Hizbut Tahrir asks the sincere officers of the Pakistan armed forces as to how long they will look on passively at this disgrace and humiliation.

Hizbut Tahrir Members Flout Government Ban, Hold Public Rally In Rawalpindi

Hundreds of members and sympathizers of the banned Islamist organization Hizbut Tahrir held a successful public rally in the Pakistani city of Rawalpindi on Sunday, according to a Pakistani daily. "Traffic on Benazir Bhutto Road remained suspended, while numerous Punjab police officials present on the scene did nothing to stop the rally," according to a report in The Express Tribune daily. The Hizbut Tahrir members called for replacing the present system of governance in Pakistan with an Islamic caliphate and raised slogans like Say no to democracy; We Welcome Khilafah [caliphate]; Kuffar nahi, Islam chahiye [We want Islam, not secularism].

Hizbut Tahrir Members Arrested In Tajikistan, Protests In Islamabad

Hizbut Tahrir Pakistan, an outlawed Islamist organization working for establishing an Islamic caliphate across the world, staged a protest outside the Embassy of Tajikistan in Islamabad against the arrest of its members by Tajik officials, according to an Urdu-language daily. The Hizbut Tahrir protesters held placards inscribed with slogans demanding an end to torture of their members in Tajikistan and other Muslim nations, according to a report in the Urdu-language daily Roznama Jasarat.

Hizbut Tahrir Using Facebook To Rally People To 'Eject America From Pakistan'

Hizbut Tahrir Calls For Deployment Of Pakistani Nuclear Weapons; Martyrdom Attacks Against U.S. Soldiers; Resistance Against Cowardly Hindus In Kashmir; Expulsion Of American And British Diplomats

The Pakistani branch of British Islamist organization Hizbut Tahrir has called for martyrdom attacks by 160 million Pakistanis on U.S. soldiers, deployment of Pakistan's nuclear weapons and banishment of U.S. soldiers and intelligence officials, according to two press releases on Hizbut Tahrir's website. A statement issued by Hizbut Tahrir on September 29, 2008 said: "Deploy nuclear weapons all over Pakistan and warn the crusaders and their allies of a stern response should they persist in their violation of Pakistan's territorial integrity.... [I]t will bolster the country's ability to effectively counter regional and international threats. If a small nuclear country like North Korea... can spurn U.S. advances, then Pakistan, a far stronger nuclear power with the seventh largest army in the world, is in a far better position to accomplish much more."
