The leader of Hay'at Tahrir Al-Sham (HTS), Ahmad Al-Shara'a, met with the International Criminal Court's chief prosecutor, Karim Ahmad Khan, in Damascus, Syria, on January 17, 2025.

On January 17, 2025, the Free Syria News Network, a media outlet supportive of Hay'at Tahrir Al-Sham (HTS), shared several photos on Telegram documenting HTS leader Ahmed Al-Shara'a – otherwise known as Abu Muhammad Al-Joulani – receiving a delegation from the International Criminal Court (ICC).[1] The delegation was headed by Karim Ahmad Khan, the ICC's chief prosecutor.

The outlet captioned the photos, writing: "The leader of the new Syrian Administration Ahmed Al-Shara'a receives a delegation from the International Criminal Court headed by Karim Ahmad Khan, the prosecutor for the International Criminal Court.

The meeting was also covered by Arab and international media outlets, which reported that, according to a statement released by Khan's office, the visit aimed to discuss how the office "can offer its partnership in support of the efforts of Syrian authorities towards accountability for alleged crimes committed in the country."[2]
