On November 19, 2024, Yemen's Iran-backed Ansar Allah movement (the Houthis) and its official media, continued criticism of Al-Saud, the ruling family of Saudi Arabia, over the organization of the lavish "Riyadh Season," a massive festival that runs through March 2025, amid war in the Gaza Strip and south Lebanon. It launched a hashtag marking the launch of an anti-Saudi campaign on X (formerly Twitter) slated to begin at 9:00 pm Sanaa time on November 19.[1]
The Houthi-owned Al-Masirah TV shared a poster under the hashtag, "They Defiantly Disobeyed"[2] condemning Saudi rulers, particularly Crown Prince Muhammad Bin Salman, for leading a campaign aimed at "raising a Zionized generation" in Saudi Arabia, transforming the culture of the rising generation, and conducting the "largest coup against Arab and Islamic values and morals."
The hashtag was originally launched by the Houthis' official website in July 2024, accompanied by an investigative video purportedly documenting Saudi Crown Prince's model of governance.[3]
The poster's text read: "A grave-dancer who rejoices in the death of people in Gaza and Lebanon. He mocks the Holy Kaaba [Mecca's stone building], the Qiblah of Muslims, and turns the land of the Two Holy Mosques into a Qiblah for immorality and debauchery."
The poster urges supporters to participate in the campaign on X under the hashtag, "They Defiantly Disobeyed" to "defend the Two Holy Mosques and expose the Zionist Saudi regime."
