Merrick Garland, the 86th Attorney General of the United States, was sworn into office on March 11, 2021.[1] Since his appointment, neo-Nazis, white supremacists, and anti-government extremists online have called him "corrupt," a "traitor," and a "tyrant." They have also threatened him and incited violence against him, calling for him to be shot or hanged.

Posts online have argued that Garland is "hunting" people who are not Jewish, specifically white people. Extremists claim he will target "any happy white family" and that he is making "whites the enemy." General antisemitic comments about Garland are also frequent, with many presenting his authority as "evidence" that Jews control the government.

On June 15, 2021, Garland announced President Biden's National Strategy for Countering Domestic Terrorism. The MEMRI DTTM documented neo-Nazis and white supremacist reactions in a report titled, "Neo-Nazis and White Supremacists On Social Media React To U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland's Speech Announcing U.S. Government's National Strategy For Countering Domestic Terrorism: 'I'll Repave My Driveway With Your Bones If You Try Shit.'"[2]

The people in the graphic are Garland; Deborah Lipstadt, U.S. special envoy for monitoring and combating antisemitism; Alejandro Mayorkas, secretary of the Department of Homeland Security; and Avril Haines, director of national intelligence.
