January 7, 2021

During the past several weeks, and throughout January 6 and 7, the MEMRI DTTM has been monitoring and sharing with authorities posts on social media by U.S.-based extremist groups and individuals. The posts include explicit death threats against political and judiciary leaders and officials, threats to kill police, threats to the Capitol, and more. The posts in this report, all dated January 7, are by neo-Nazis, white supremacists, and accelerationists on Telegram, Gab, Instagram, and Parler.

The posts specifically promote violence, call for revolution and civil war, celebrate the takeover of the Capitol, and express support for the unrest in the city and related incidents. They also threaten – with death – anyone who helps authorities identify individual protestors. Related social media chatter came from within Washington, D.C. and the Capitol building itself, from across the U.S., and from groups and individuals around the world.

This report, which is an abridged version of a longer follow-up to the MEMRI DTTM January 6 report, presents just a sampling of the extremist content currently circulating on these platforms about today's Capitol events. The longer report includes sections on:

* Threats of future attacks

* International responses supporting the protest and expressing hope for revolution

* Assorted imagery from January 6

* Revolution and radicalization

* Antisemitic commentary about the protests

* Woman shot and killed in Capitol "martyr" for the cause

* Protestors' proof that they participated

* Anti-police

* Turning on President Donald Trump and calling for his killing

* Vice President Mike Pence as traitor

The following is an abridged version of the longer report, to be published tomorrow.

U.S.-Based Reactions

An extremist Parler user posted a screenshot of a report stating that the FBI had called for help in identifying individual protestors. He responded by calling for the killing of anyone who helps the agency: "Anyone who tells the Feeb anything gets hung from the gallows in the public square and their body put on display."

A U.S.-based white supremacist terror-promoting Telegram channel posted a graphic of a figure who has red eyes and a sonnenrad halo holding the bloody severed heads of Joe Biden and Donald Trump. The background of the graphic features the repeating text: "DEATH TO THE SYSTEM THERE IS NO POLITICAL SOLUTION" written over and over. The channel writes: "Trump is calling for 'peace' – FUCK YOU TRUMP this is bigger than your Israeli cocksucking ass and your supporters are starting to realize it."

A British extreme-right activist on Parler shared a two-second edited video showing Vice President Mike Pence standing next to Trump ripping up the Constitution. Comments on the post include calling Pence a "traitor," calling him "Judas," calling for him to "hang for treason," and calling for a "Civil War." Other Parler users called Pence a "traitor"; one wrote: "We will hang you for treason you f****** piece of s***" and in response another user wrote: "I want to see a couple more hundred hang beside him! Patriots took the capital quick when they wanted it. I'd rather see a Civil War than what they're going to do to our country."

A Parler user posted, on January 6, an image of Nancy Pelosi with the text "Traitor," with the "O" in traitor represented by handcuffs. One user commented: "Should kill her family." Another user wrote: "She needs to be shot right between the eyes."

An extremist Parler account posted a message, since deleted, about "taking back Our Constitutional Republic": "You think Patriots were revved up today? You haven't seen nothing. We're pissed and we're taking back Our Constitutional Republic. This is WAR!!!! No tyranny was ever conquered without bloodshed and sacrifice. We're coming for the Traitors. Slow is Smooth is Fast."

The channel later forwarded a message from an extremist Telegram channel that reads: "What's happening in Congress right now is posturing for the cameras. What's really happening is they are lining up for gibs and negotiating for seats on committees. Don't think for one minute they care about anything but lining their own pockets and enhancing their images." Another Telegram channel responds by writing: "And that's why we don't care if they swing left or if they swing right. They will swing by their necks until they are dead."

A neo-Nazi accelerationist Telegram channel posted a message in response to the news clip of Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-NY) speaking about the Capitol Hill protests: "I don't have to remind you lads, but remember how they've argued for the legitimacy of the Leftwing mobs burning down our cities calling them "Mostly Peaceful Protesters" as the rioters and thugs beat our White elders and murdered and raped their way across America? Remember that? Remember all of that? Be aware, these Communist politicians are about to bring the fight to your doorstep. How will you respond? Start thinking long and hard about that. When our time comes, and it is coming, we should all be reciting A Warrior's Prayer and lacing up boots. The short period of Peace is over. War is here, as it always has been and always will be. Our future is: 'Kill Commies for Hitler'. Keep a rifle by your side." In response to the channel's message to "kill Commies For Hitler" one Telegram user wrote: "No more peace, only Violence."

A white supremacist Telegram channel wrote: "America can not be saved it is not meant to be saved it can only be Cleansed."

A neo-Nazi Telegram channel posted several now deleted messages calling for the seizure of land and further killings. In one post the channel writes: "Our enemies are weaker than ever... that's what yesterday showed me. You know I'm the most pessimistic soldier we have and I now realize we will win. JM [James Mason] was right... But listen to me. get ready to grab some fucking land. go I know now that we will destroy them and win... let's just be smart about it. don't get captured or killed... Instead capture and kill."

A user posted in a neo-Nazi Telegram channel chat that he is angry but does not know what to do. In response, another user suggests "Aren't your local militias organising? Can you get your marksman rifle and execute a few of the traitors."

A white supremacist user on Instagram posted a graphic calling for a civil war. The image shows an illustration of a man in a skull mask pointing a pistol and the text "I would rather have a civil war than a communist government." In the comments section in response to a user calling the events at the Capitol too tame, a user writes "At this point hunting parties are needed." Another user responds "until a politician swings from a necktie or heads are mounted on the White House fence we will continue to watch them steal our freedom. Today was proof we are all talk and zero action. It was pathetic and embarrassing."

A neo-Nazi user posted in a Gab group advocating further violence. In the first post he argues that violence is effective and calls for more violence "The whole reason we have "hate crime" law is because violence works as a deterrent. So the solution for that is not: Don't be violent, it's: Figure out how to be violent without getting caught. Because non-violence is a non-solution." One post refers to the protestor who was killed and calls for revenge: "There's no magical combination of words that are going to make the lefties stop trying to kill you. Only physical force and violence will solve this problem."

In a Gab group multiple users called for further violence. One user responded to Trump's call for calm: "Time to peacefully burn down the Capitol." Another user agrees with the original poster, writing "... and who's the dummy that forgot the gasoline? Someone needs to speak to him."

A neo-Nazi Telegram channel shared a post from another channel featuring a noose in front of the Capitol building with the text "day of the fucking rope."

A neo-Nazi channel on Telegram shared a post from another channel showing a photo of congress with the red glowing text "CRUCIFY THEM."

A racist Telegram channel shared a post from another channel featuring a graphic of the Capitol building with a black cross and the text "DEATH TO AMERICA HOLY WAR."

A neo-Nazi Telegram channel shared a video showing the moment when protesters broke into the Capitol and a woman was shot. The text reads: "Pigs murder an unarmed white woman, we cannot let this stand. We must show vengeance, like the pig system has never seen."

[WARNING: GRAPHIC] An accelerationist Parler user wrote: "I agree 100% exposing traitors for what they are would be cathartic. So light, they'll fly like eagles." The post included a photo of a "blood eagle" execution in which the victim's lungs are pulled through incisions in his back.

A Twitter user shared a photo of three men in "MAGA CIVIL WAR JANUARY 6, 2021" sweatshirts, tweeting "I asked these guys if civil war was what they wanted. 'Yes' they replied."

The U.S.-based white supremacist accelerationist Telegram channel shared a graphic featuring a man holding the Confederate flag inside the Capitol, with the text "REFORM THE STATES" covering his eyes. The caption reads "Death to the United States."

A neo-Nazi Telegram channel posted a message about learning from the events in the United States to understand how easy it is to overthrow the government. The full message reads: "If you learned anything at all today it should be how easy it really is to overthrow your government if you have the will. Discontent grows stronger by the day, many more people will have woken up and been radicalised by the events that took place. There are more of us than there are of them."

An extreme-right Parler account shared an image of a nuclear mushroom cloud overlaid with the American flag, with the text: "Something is about to happen. Democrats are not going to like it, at all. It's going to be wonderful. Trump will win!" The post tags more than 50 other Parler users. In the accompanying text, the user wrote: "With legal options exhausted...it's Go Time. Time to go nuclear. Leave no stone unturned. #RiderOnTheStorm2021." Comments on post include calls for action as an urgent, timely matter and comments by users sharing their readiness for action. One user wrote "Only if the people themselves will make it happen. No one in Washington will." Another user wrote: "The time has come to become the insurgents in our own nation and make tyrants afraid again. They'll [...] claim you're the bad guys; you have to get over that and do what must be done." One user wrote: "Okay Patriots just about time to pick up arms and fight back" and in response, a user wrote: "Better git [sic] r [sic] done because they will be coming for your guns!" Another user wrote: "Everybody got their "affairs" in order?" and in response, a user wrote: "Yes. Ammo sorted and food and med supplies stored."

A neo-Nazi Accelerationist Telegram channel wrote on its Telegram channel that the "Siege of the Capitol [Siege is a reference to American neo-Nazi James Mason's novel by the same name]," shows two things: "1. White people are tired of the ZOG [Zionist Occupation Government] system. 2. White people can and will rise up." The channel stated: "[...T]his is our opportunity. Things are accelerating pretty fast day by day. Your mission is to invite Magatards [Trump supporters] into our spaces. Tell them there is a solution to their problem. Invite them to telegram. Seize the opportunity." In the subsequent post, the channel shared an image of the cover of James Mason's Siege[1] superimposed on a photo of a gallows that appears to have been placed in front of Capitol Hill.

A neo-Nazi Telegram channel posted about the coming "collapse" of the United States government. The message reads: "UNDERSTAND THIS: THE COLLAPSE IS NOT A ONE TIME EVENT. NOTHING EVER IS. THE COLLAPSE IS AN ESCALATION OF SUCCESSIVE EVENTS, ONE OF WHICH YOU ARE WITNESSING TODAY. THE POLITICAL CLIMATE OF A COUNTRY IS ALWAYS FLUCTUATING, SO AS THE HYPE DIES DOWN FOR THE DAY AND WE ALL GO TO BED... REMEMBER THE PROGRESSION WE MADE TODAY AND THE RESPONSE THEY ARE FORCED TO TAKE TOMORROW. REMEMBER WHERE WE THOUGHT OUR PREVIOUS LIMITATIONS WERE AND HOW FAR WE PUSHED PASSED THEM. REMEMBER THAT IT IS A BATTLE THAT IS WON DAY BY DAY, HOUR BY HOUR, TOOTH BY TOOTH, YARD BY YARD. TODAY THE VICTORY WAS OURS. SIEG HEIL."

A neo-Nazi Telegram channel wrote "THE FOUNDING FATHERS WERE GUERRILLA TERRORISTS WHO SMUGGLED ILLEGAL WEAPONRY AND KILLED DOMESTIC POLICE – SECURE FREEDOM AT ANY COST."

An accelerationist terror-promoting Telegram channel forwarded a post another channel featuring a graphic of a bloodied policeman's head on a spike, with the accompanying text: "Any officers who may have been 'good guys who just need to put food on the table' left long long ago. The pigs that are left are system whores who have no problem dropping their knee down on your ribs and throat so long as it means the system can enact its force on the people for another day."

A neo-Nazi Telegram channel shared a photo featuring a protester on the Senate floor with the text "DON'T LIKE YOUR GOVERNMENT? KILL THEM."

A white supremacist Telegram channel posted a graphic of a bald eagle pulling back the American flag holding a pen at a voting booth with the words: "Bad Government? KILL THEM." The graphic originally read "vote them out!"

A U.S.-based Telegram channel posted a video with an edited image of the Capitol building with a sonnenrad in the background and the words: "TEAR IT DOWN."

A white supremacist Telegram channel shared a graphic of the Capitol building with the text "LET IT BURN."

An accelerationist Parler user wrote: "Life in America has now devolved into 'The Turner Diaries.'[2] I really do suggest you read it. Of all the Prophetic books out there, it nailed the Modern day right through the eyes." The user provided a downloadable version of the book.

International Responses Supporting The Protest And Expressing Hope For Revolution

A user in a Telegram chat discussed a future "capital takeover," and another user called for executions, writing "the next Capitol takeover should be with a well coordinated militia. And the politicians and journos should be executed ans [sic] hanged in open for the world to watch."

A Russian neo-Nazi published on its Telegram channel a post stating its high hopes about the rioters: "I think that in a few hours it will become clear whether Modern History is being created, or whether 'angry whites' were just releasing a steam." The channel laments that "Ku Klux Klan also gathered a million people march in Washington at the beginning of the last century", however it resulted only in 'beautiful photos ...'"

A Ukrainian neo-Nazi Telegram channel, which primarily promotes neo-Nazi apparel, posted a photo of a man wearing a helmet, military garb, and a skull mask standing outside the National Museum of African American History and Culture. His jacket has multiple patches on the sleeves including a sonnenrad; a confederate flag; and one of which features a sonnenrad with an assault rifle in the middle and the text "REVOLT AGAINST THE MODERN WORLD." The channel urged its American subscribers to take action, writing: "Dear American brothers and sisters, you'll never get a better shot at ending the globalist menace in your country. It's now or never!"

[1] Siege: The Collected Writings Of James Mason is a book by American neo-Nazi James Mason who is known to be an advisor to the violent extremist white supremacist international organization Atomwaffen Division (AWD). The book is listed as required reading on the AWD website.

[2] The Turner Diaries is a 1978 novel by William Luther Pierce about a violent overthrow of the U.S. government that leads to a race war and the extermination of non-white races. Pages of the book were found in the car Timothy McVeigh was driving 90 minutes after he carried out the Oklahoma City Bombing in 1995. John William King, one of three men who murdered James Byrd Jr., a disabled black man, in 1998 by chaining him by his ankles to the back of a pickup truck and dragging him for several miles, reportedly said: "We're starting 'the Turner Diaries' early," while dragging Byrd's body behind the truck. The novel is also thought to be the inspiration for the neo-Nazi organization The Order, which had the same name as an organization in the novel, and was responsible for the 1984 murder of Jewish radio host Alan Berg.
