On February 20, 2025, Trump advisor Steve Bannon gave a speech at CPAC in National Harbor, Maryland. Towards the end of his speech, Bannon performed a fascist salute, which received enthusiastic cheering from the crowd. Bannon said, "The only way that they win is [if] we retreat, and we're not gonna retreat, we're not gonna surrender, we're not gonna quit. Fight, fight, fight!" He then saluted and said, "Amen." Immediately following his salute, the president of a French far-right party announced that he was withdrawing from the conference. He had been scheduled to give a speech on the links between the US and France and increasing support for far-right parties in Europe. Similarly, a prominent American white supremacist publicly disapproved of the salute on his livestream, saying, "It's getting a little excessive even for me."

An American neo-Nazi podcast shared a video of Steve Bannon with the caption: "Steve Bannon just threw a Roman at CPAC."
An Australian neo-Nazi joked about the salute, writing: "Steve Bannon is throwing Romans at CPAC now wtf"
An American neo-Nazi who founded a New England-based neo-Nazi group also shared a video of the tail end of Bannon's speech and the salute. The caption reads, "Former White House Strategist Steve Bannon performs a clear Roman salute at the end of his CPAC speech."
In a post on his Telegram channel, an American neo-Nazi commented on Steve Bannon's appearance at CPAC, where he appeared to throw a fascist salute. "Steve Bannon throws up Romans after his speech at CPAC."
A Neo-Nazi on X replied to a video of Steve Bannon on X performing a fascist salute at CPAC saying "oh man i guess hes autistic too." The neo-Nazi replied, saying: "It's 2025, we Heil Hitler retard."
A white supremacist X user shared a photo of Bannon's salute and wrote: "I LOVE STEVE BANNON."
A neo-Nazi shared a photo of Bannon saluting and congratulated him, writing: "welcome to the club steve bannon."
