On October 3, 2024, Iran-backed Yemen's Ansar Allah Movement (Houthis) published on Telegram a three-minute animated video depicting a drone attack on Tel Aviv, Israel's second-largest city.
The animated video opens with a screen showing photos of dead and injured Gazan children paired with a woman's voice pleading for revenge against the Israeli army. While four Houthi operatives watch the screen, the woman cries: "We are subjected to massacres every day... every day... and no one looks for us."
Photos of Houthi leaders, Abd Al-Malik Badr Al-Din Al-Houthi and the slain Hussein Badr al-Din Al-Houthi, along with slain Lebanese Hizbullah leader Hassan Nasrallah, are shown hanging on the wall next to the group's slogan. Meanwhile, the operatives point to Tel Aviv in the map, declaring the city a target for their operation.
After receiving orders to execute the attack, the drone dubbed "Yaffa" was displayed in an exhibition, then moved to the launch pad in a deserted location.
Passing an American vessel in the Red Sea, the drone was later shown flying over buildings with Israeli flags, declaring its arrival in Tel Aviv.
In a simulated attack, the drone targets what appears to be a civilian building, followed by a huge explosion, sirens, and burning Israeli flags.
After the operation, Houthi armed forces spokesman Brig.-Gen. Yahya Sare'e reads a statement claiming the Houthi attack, while a photo of a concerned Netanyahu is shown standing next to a burning menorah.
The video later shows Houthi operatives celebrating the "successful" operation, along with an excerpt of a speech by Abd Al-Malik Al-Houthi, who threatens: "Mission accomplished. The enemy [Israel] does not have one safe location, even the so-called Tel Aviv is in our bank of targets," the video concludes.
