November 2, 2018

On September 12, 2018, Asharq Al-Awsat reported that on September 11, the website of Egypt's state-run Middle East News Agency was hacked and defaced for about one hour. The hackers posted an image of Muslim Brotherhood leader Muhammad Al-Baltagi, who, along with 75 other leaders and members of the Muslim Brotherhood, had been sentenced to death on September 8. The image included a statement in Arabic and in Turkish accusing the authorities of "oppressing the innocent," saying that: "You send them to the gallows and oppress the innocent just because they have different opinions." The bottom of the image reads in Turkish: "We are Ottomans. We are raiders. We are Turkey." Cyber-Warrior TIM Akıncılar ("Cyber-Warrior Raiders Team") is the name of a Turkish hacking group.
